For us the exchange rates (Suck) but for anyone in Europe/ Asia/ Africa; the USD is widely accepted and actually preferred.

If you plan extensive IN CHINA travel; you might first know where one can make exchanges and have some of their currency in your pocket. They might have the same problem in any more rural area. You might also investigate ahead of time if Their currency is consistent throughout the country.

I recall being in Scotland one year not so long ago; and they didn't strictly accept the USD, but banks were happy to exchange my dollars at 53 cents per. They loved the infusion of our currency.

Definetly us dollars. I doubt you would wind anywhere to change sterling. I took US dollars with me when I travelled through Asia. They are definelty the best currency to take as the dollar is respected.
