I am wondering if it would be okay to use coal ashes above the tamped earth and below the sand layer. There are a lot of coal ashes underneath an old sidewalk I am removing, so they were used for that before. Are ashes just as good as the subbase material you buy in a home center?

I have a mulberry tree that needs killing. I want to ensure that it NEVER comes back, and could care less about "politically correct" gardening. I am literally at the verge of using napalm if it doesn't go soon. Please let me know the quickest way to eliminate it (preferrably undetected).

Thanks!

These are cups like one would use in camping-I think of them as cowboy cups. If theres a bit of chipping-its ok as I want them to look used-even rusted in places-so I'll probablt try and chip some. I've got an extra to play with but was wondering what type of drill bit to use? Just a "metal" one? THANKS!

I don't have any land, but I do have a patio and I was wondering if I could grow some veggies in a large container. If yes, how big of a container should I be looking for? What kind of veggies can I plant in the container? Which veggies need to be grown on land?

i am moving to a studio apartment. its pretty small, and i cant imagine fitting both a bed and a sofa comfortably.

i have thought about getting a sleeper sofa but they are generally uncomfortable. i have slept on air mattresses for extended periods of time and that gets annoying after a while. lastly, i dont like the way daybeds look.

any suggestions?

I love frogs and the nice bugs which help my lawn and garden grow. I sprayed around the base of the house to keep bugs out, but I do not want to kill the ecosystem or drive the birds and frogs and other nice creatures from my property. But then again, I hate mosquitos (in Houston) and I hate spiders. Ants are easy to see and kill (with their mounds), so I don't find them annoying. I have no pest problems except mosquitos (which I am killing with an octenol-based bug zapper). What should I do?

I'm familiar with the history and suggestions to replace Stab-Lok breakers by FPE, so there is no need to reiterate the above. I'd just like to know how many people are still using them, and how long have you had your panel/circuit breaker? Thanks

I painted my kitchen last year and I'm growing tired of the color now. You can consider it either a light gold or light mustard-yellow. My kitchen isn't big at all so instead of painting the whole thing over, I thought I'de try a fun technique such as rag-rolling or sponging. Any tips on how to do this? Which colors should I go with? I'm assuming it would have to be colors in the yellow family - how many different shades should I use?

My living room is substantially smaller than most of the rooms in my 100+ year old home. I am at a loss as to how to arrange the furnishings! No matter how I do it, it just looks cramped and crowded and boring.

The room measures 10' by 20'. All I have in the room is a sofa, sofa chair, side table, coffee table, and the entertainment center.

The design of the room makes it hard to turn the sofa at a diagonal, because there is a large archway to the dining room at one end, and a staircase at the other end, my front door on the one side, and entry to the hall on the other side.

Are there any good design websites that you know of? Or what would you suggest (i.e. getting rid of some of the pieces or replacing them)?

Thanks!!

I have a huge blank wall with really nothing on it. I had this great idea of starching fabric of silloutes of people to it, but I don't want it to leave behind a mess when i take it down in a year or two (i rent). Have you ever done this before and know if it does leave a residue? do colors bleed onto the walls? is it easy to clean?

Do you have any other ideas of what i could do to display silloutes of ppl that wouldn't cost too much money??

Hi, We're buying a house and the inspector pointed out that the main power line (from pole to house), is too tight. He said there should be a loop and there isn't one. The line is starting to pull the bracket from the house. Who is responsible for this? Do I call the Electric Company or have to hire an electrician? And if it the Elec. Co. Do they charge for fixing this? If so, any clue how much? Sorry, since it's our first home, funds are growing tighter with closing approaching, so just trying to budget for everything. Thanks!

I am looking for a clear and sturdy (and preferably relatively inexpensive) building material for a stage prop. I am trying to imitate glass or plastic block (just can't afford it) so clear is a must! It will be placed in a wooden frame and must be 54" x 54" or combined to get said dimensions. It must be able to be drilled or somehow have 4 wooden shadow boxes weighing apx 3 pounds each on it and not need too much back support so it can be backlit. Basically.... I am reconstructing the control pannel as seen in The Rocky Horror Picture Show... I've considered plexiglass, polycarbonate, twinwall polycarbonate, Solexx... I really like the Twinwall, but there isn't a retailer close (I'm in Ohio) and definently can't afford to ship it here at min $250. Ideas??

can a home elevator be constructed outside the house in a enclosed shaft that resembles a brick fireplace and chimney that begins in the basement and extends upward to the second floor I was thinking that I could cut the concrete foundation for access in the basement and cut the framing on the first and second floors to access them also.Anybody out there that has expierience in this field please let me know if this is feasable.
