After you have sandpapered high spots down, spray
furniture polish on some cloth then rub into edge of
door this should stop the noise.

You have to figure out where the noise comes from. If it's the hinges, try removing the hinge pins one at a time, and wiping them with a bit of light grease. WD40 and powdered graphite will drip out and make a mess on the floor under the hinge, so don't use them. You want something that will stick to the pin and not run.

If it's not the hinges, the door is probably rubbing somewhere. Look at the edges - are there marks where the door rubs the frame? If so, try removing the door by taking out all the hinge pins, and either sand the door down in that spot, or shave it just a tiny bit. It won't take much to do it. If you had to remove even 1/10th of an inch, the door wouldn't close. Then put the door back on the hinges, and try it again.

The door could have warped too if it's a "cheap" wood or hollow door. You didn't say if it's an outside door or exposed to the elements/sun.

If it's too badly warped (or maybe even the frame is warped) it can be more complicated. A little lemon oil on wood doors never hurts and keeps the wood "moist" and protects them from the elements.

The last answer is a good one but if you see rub marks it could also be a sign that the hinge screws have come loose a little bit try tightening them before sanding on the door.

I would say that the wood has expanded due to moisture/humidity. Look around the door and frame for "rub" marks and sand them down a bit.
