i bought a potted cornflower with beautiful blue flowers, got it home and put it in a bigger container, and now about a week later it looks dead. Anyone know why? The soil is damp but not waterlogged.

I have an older wood burning stove and a lot of ash dust gets all over things in the kitchen. Cleaning windows and countertops are no problem. But the ceiling is. What is the best way to clean a kitchen ceiling and with what product. I started using a mop with a powdered cleaner Spick and Span, and it has helped, but it is slow going. Any suggestions?

We just recently moved into an old farm house. When we first walked in, it smelled horrible of a musty wood stove. It seemed that anyone who has ever lived there NEVER cleaned it! We've been in and stripped wall paper painted a few rooms CLEANED EVERYTHING! and you can still catch that smell in all of the rooms. How can I get rid of it?

We recently purchased a braided hibiscus and planted it outside in the ground near our pond. Will it survive the winter outdoors. Temps get to 20 below at times up here. Will it die off and then come back in the spring? I do not want to have to have to bring it in during the winter months. Any suggestions? Or should I just take it back?

I bought an old farmhouse that has suffered significant neglect and abuse. While other repairs have been costly, like re-plumbing the entire house they are for the most part invisible. I have been having problems with repainting the interior. I am trying to repaint the interior and have problems with yellowing of the paint as it dries. I wash and repair the walls before I paint, but when I do the color does not come out as expected. I have applied 3 coats of brilliant white paint to the dining room and it comes out yellowish brown and splotchy. How can I prevent the paint from turning yellow as it dries? I know the other rooms are going to have the same problem. Also how can I paint over paneling, that apparently was greyish but is now dark brown?

I attempted to change my thermostat at home. After an unsuccesful try, I put the old one back on. I'm pretty sure I put the wires back correctly, but now its randomly blowing hot air and cold air at different times. Appreciate your responses.

The roof is in the South of England.
It is one storey high, it will hold work men.
The dimensions are 24 foot by 11 foot.

We were advised by the person that we are buying the property from that the roof will be over 15 years this year and may need 're-felting'.

There is currently no sign of leaking ie. no water damage is apparent and the roof does not have any visible signs of damage. It is clear and clean and there are no plants, mould.

If the roof does need re-felting, what is involved? and how much roughly will it cost?

We bought a house and the front door is a disaster. Very sturdy good door, but someone painted it, with I think, the wrong kind of paint and it is all chipping off in chunks. It is not wooden.. not sure what other kinds there are, but I think it is some sort of metal. What should I do to get the paint that is on there now OFF? A metal brush would scratch it, wouldn't it? And what kind of paint should be used to do it right?? Rustoleum I heard is the only paint for metal?? ANY advise would be great!

I bought shellac to preserve leaves and flowers before setting them in resin (so any natural oils in the plants won't react with the resin) but the can says I'm supposed to mix the shellac with alcohol. What kind of alcohol am I supposed to use and what sort of container should I be mixing this in?

Thank you in advance for your help.
