at least a business permit or license is required by most all municipalities and most states require some licensing of contractors and service providers it seems in this day and age you are required to have alicense to do any thing even handyman types are usually required to get business permits licenses are necessary to protect the consumer as well as the provider from fraudulent or disreputable people.

you can get your sub-contractor liscense which will cost you about 4 or 5 hundred dollars, after you get that, you should purchase insurance, then you can work through other companies and eventually open your own business...You can do it without a liscense, but most people these days won't do it if your not bonded and insured for there own security purposes..to many people ruined it by not completing jobs or got paid for the job before it was done and never came back...it will be worth it for you to get licensed.

I am sure you will need some type licence, even if it is only a Vendor/Business licence. You will also need bonding and insurance.
