why has my cornflower died?

Question

i bought a potted cornflower with beautiful blue flowers, got it home and put it in a bigger container, and now about a week later it looks dead. Anyone know why? The soil is damp but not waterlogged.

I hate to say it but you are loving it to death. Corn flowers are drought tolerant and need very little water. Also, if you live in a particularly hot or humid area then your cornflower will suffer. I suspect that it is too much water though. Here is a site all about the cornflower.

I agree with Spytfr ... these flowers are drought tolerant so you'll want to water them rather infrequently. As long as the plant is not waterlogged, give it a little more time, though. It can take a couple of weeks for the roots to get firmly established after transplanting.

If indeed it is dead though, if you kept the receipt, you'll want to return it to the retailer and ask for a replacement. Once in a while the plant itself may be diseased or too weak to survive transplanting.

I thought cornflowers were supposed to dry up and were saved in dry floral arrangements. That is the only way I have ever seen a cornflower.
