I have been working on cleaning a house where an old lady died. She was a pack rat and her house is full from floor to ceiling with crap. She no longer used any of the bedrooms because they were too full and instead only used the living room to sleep in.

She was incontinent and was too old to care about hygene.

The bathroom was full of urine soiled clothes and the sleeper sofa smelled unbelievably bad. All of this has been removed from the house, however the smells remain. STRONG!

Are there chemicals that will counteract the smell of human urine? I have previously treated cat urine with some success, but this is different - not an amonia smell.

I am concerned that the smell is in the subfloor and walls, not just the carpets and crap. This isn't a decomposing smell, just stale urine.

Any suggestions? A spray treatment would be ideal.

I noticed that in most houses, the ceilings of the rooms have those white powdery rugged or bumpy stuff on them. Why don't they just make the ceilings flat and smooth? What is the purpose of that white powdery bumpy stuff on our ceilings? When i touch them they just crack and fall down creating a mess on the ground.

My hot taps work in the bath and sink in the bathroom. Although the one in the kitchen does not work, it just runs cold.
I was told it would be an air lock and so turned the main water tap off, then the bath and sink taps on , let them run dry and then turned the main tap back on, and this should have freed the air lock if any. The kitchen tap was hot after this had been done but after turning it off again and going back to it later again it wasn't working.
I'm now on here looking for another possible diagnosis to solve the problem as it didn't work. Does anybody know how I can get it to work. Please only answer this if you do.

Thank you!

I have spent forever making my room perfect. It is bright, colorful, and I have alot of really neat interesting things. But, there is still one part of my room that I don't know what to do about.

On one wall I have a shelf that stretches all the way across it. It is about a foot from the ceiling.

It has stuff from when I was little, like birdhouses I painted and ancient little trophies and other weird little babyish knick-knacks.

I really need to update it, but don't know what to put up there. If you have ANY IDEAS please HELP!!!

Thanks SO much!

the leaves have turned yellow and are dropping off!!
have only had it for 3 weeks!
(have read similar posting's answers - and it would seem this was due to the natural leaves dropping of in autumn - but it is not autumn now!)
I don't know the type (sorry!).
The soil seems very dry, but have not watered it too much to compensate.
It is in a bright sunny spot - but it could be a little drafty - one thought.
Any suggestions / advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

To save my septic system I heard of making a 4 x 4 hole and filling with rocks to let the water drain. Can I do that in my crawl space or should it be away from the house?

I have gnats everywhere. There is nothing rotten like fruit or any vegatables. My house is clean. There is absolutely nothing to draw these things inside my home. I am talking thousands of them a day. They gather around my tea maker and die, they fall dead on my stove at night because I leave the overhead light on, & they get stuck in my ozone air machine. I clean my ozone machine daily because there are at least 30 in there dead everyday on the ozone plate. They fly around everwhere. Could it be because its so dry outside, because of no rain, or maybe one layed eggs in my house. Anyone who knows the cause of these things and what I can do to get rid of them, I would certainly appreciate any input.

My dad and I have the hardest time caring for them. They always seem to die. My bf's mom has the greatest luck with them, and she says all she does is plant them and water them. I doubt if it's the soil because we live in the same area. Anyone have any personal tips they've learned while growing them? We don't want to let it die, because it's a rosebush we received at my mother's funeral last year.

Debating what kind of fan to purchase for my bedroom. Although the tower fan is more visually appealing, it is more expensive than the conventional stand fan. Both oscilate and come with different speeds.
Which type do you prefer and why?
