What can i mix with heavy clay soil to make it more easily worked? I have loads of bare patches on my lawn and need to re-seed but the ground is like concrete.

I live in San Antonio. Throughout the summer, most of my yard is in heavy, heavy shade. I love color but I'm tired of impatiens, begonias, caladiums, and coleus, and I don't have much luck with hostas. I'd also like to put in some perennials but don't have a lot to spend. Any suggestions? Or am I just out of luck? Thanks for any help.

We live in a multi unit condo building, and we have a big carpenter ant problem every year from late spring into the summer. What can I do before it starts to help keep them out? Caulk around the baseboards?! Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Are cracks all over the lawn anything to worry about? I'm guessing it's because the soil round here is clay based and because it's so dry at the minute. Is there any way to lessen them or even better to get rid of them completely?

What are the advantages of using a washing-up bowl as opposed to just washing things in the sink with a plug? Are there any?

How can you remove a green sharpie mark out of a 94% cotton and 6% spandex tee shirt?

I have tried bleaching the stain, letting it sit for a few minutes, then rinsing it off. (It turned the mark to a light blue.)

I have also tried regular detergent.

And rubbing it with a bar of soap.

Any other suggestions? Its needed for an event later today. Thanks :)

In my new house, we've dug a veg patch in the garden, but the dandelions that have been there for an eternity have such deep roots that we just CAN'T get them up in their entirety. Having had a look at various sites, all the advice for dandelions seems to relate to lawns, and suggests either salt or a paint/spray weedkiller that is absorbed all the way to the root.

I'm not keen on having chemical weedkiller in the veg path but my other half says that salt will leave the soil so that NOTHING will grow in future years.

What's the best solution for this?
