You need to use a chemical with the same basic nature as the ink.
Sometimes alcohol will dissolve ink, but as it dissolves out you run the risk of spreading the stain a little. Run alot through the stain and try not to rub it around too much.
If this doesn't work, you could try : WD-40, and lighter fluid. Be careful of their flammable nature of course.
If none of these answers work, here's a quick short term solution that is kind of funny, but it will do the job: White out. Simply paint a white spot over the stain. I had a boss that used to do this a long time ago. His shirt was full of white out spots, but from several feet away, nobody could tell.
-good luck

Sorry to say, sharpie is probably almost impossible to get out.
A safe alternative to all these chemicals people are telling you to try, is getting that dryel dry cleaning kit. It comes with a dry cleaning solution. I have used to get pen out of dry clean only and cotton shirts and it has worked.
I'd try the method I use. Rubbing Alcohol, putting a cloth underneath where you're blotting it so the stain doesn't run on anything else. Then you rub petroleum jelly on it. Then you use the dry cleaning solvent, then wash in hottest water safe for fabric, and use a color safe bleach one for better results.
If that doesn't work, I don't know if it's possible, it's a permanent marker.

I'd try SHOUT spray - leave it for an hour or so - rub it in and wash - cold water -
I use it for everything and its great - but never had a sharpie mark - lots of pen, and may other really bad stains -
pulled this info below from the sharpie site - hope it helps...
How do I remove a permanent marker stain?
The successful stain removal of ink stains differs from case to case because of the many types of fabrics, colors, inks and time elapsed before stain removal. We cannot guarantee stain removal since many variables can be involved. Testing first is always recommended as well as following both the stain remover and clothing manufacturer's instructions. Following these steps should result in partial or complete removal.
General Rules:
1) Treat stains as soon as possible. Fresh stains can be removed more easily than old ones.
2) Check manufacturer's labels as to fabric content and any special instructions
3) Always test stain removal solution first on a hidden part of the article or on swatch of fabric taken from seam allowance to insure no color loss or damage will occur.
4) Where possible, lay stained article face down on paper towels or clean white cloth and apply stain removal solution to underside of stain so that stain can be removed from the surface instead of pushing it through the fabric. Replace towels or cloth as they absorb stain to prevent stain transfer.
5) If enlisting the aid of a professional laundry or dry cleaner, be sure to indicate what the stain is and the type of fabric.
6) Do not iron stained garments or put in dryer as this may set stain.

Try spraying the mark with rubbing alcohol. If tat doesnt work you will probably not have any other options. Sharpie has a website ...you might try emailing them for more ideas.

Haha...i in my view did the comparable ingredient, basically i drew the pinnacle of an anime character. I drew it on a gray T-shirt and that i washed/dried it as quickly as and it have been given diminished, not unpresentable nevertheless. i might reccomend not drying it, anyhow. and that i might basically draw on a coloured t-shirt in case you weren't going to colour the chibi character, it would look undesirable...

Try the Tide pen or the tide detergent then use a rotating toothbrush. Try brushing off the "infected" part.
