We live in a multi unit condo building, and we have a big carpenter ant problem every year from late spring into the summer. What can I do before it starts to help keep them out? Caulk around the baseboards?! Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Hah, love your screen name! Anyway--yes, caulk around all the openings in your condo; that will help. Ant traps, etc., aren't really all that effective unless you get to the queen, which doesn't always happen. If you want to establish a perimeter (as they say), you can mix peanut butter, jelly and boric acid (which you can get at a hardware or drug store) and put it around the outside of the building. The boric acid is quite toxic to ants but also to other animals, so be sure to put it in a place that pets and children can't reach.

I would convince apt management that not getting rid of the ant nests will only damage their buildings. I've successfully used Borax (find in laundry section) mixed with honey to get rid of sugar ants.
I don't know about carpenter ants but the sugar ants we were getting were attracted to water. They were around our sinks. I'd wipe everything down with Clorox wipes and make sure that I kept those areas dry as possible.

Use diatamaceous earth, it's non toxic and safe to sprinkle in your home and outside!

That is what I use and it works great...I sprinkle it all over my yard.
