i am pulling up the vinyl tile on my kitchen and breakfast area. instead of installing conventional flooring, i am thinking about staining or painting the concrete slab. is this a viable option? cost efficient?

We paid almost £1000 to have our bathroom tiled and plumbed in. The guy did an okay job. However, he didnt link up the overflow pipe on the bath to the rest of the waste water system and this has lead to our neighbours flat getting flooded. The damage isnt too bad, i think we could probably just steam clean the carpet and get out most of the stain - the problem is i don't think we should have to pay for it as for £1000 he didnt do his job properly! I have contacted the tiler to tell him the story but he won't answer my calls, return messages or emails. I really don't know what to do. We saved for ages for this bathroom in our 1st home and i'm terribly sad about the experience. I dont think we can afford to buy a new carpet for the neighbour (if steam cleaning doesnt work)..... does anyone know legally how i stand or have any suggestion how i can claim the carpet money from the tiler? any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello to everyone,I have a question to ask.I have currently been
renting a 3 bedroom home since 2002 that has central and
my gas bills are reallly high during the winter. On average it
runs a little over $300 per/month.It is a very old unit.I have seen
friends and family gas bill during winter who have space heaters
no central unit and their gas bill is significantly lower. The landlord
says I can install space heaters since lines are already
in place in each individual room.what I would like to know
is will my gas bill be noticably low using 10,000 btu space heaters
to heat the home? I was told that central heat/air is the most
expensive gas heat and that by electing to use space heaters
I will see a drop in my utility bill. does anyone know or can estimate
what my bill will be reduced to from $340-380 collectively?

The back tank fills up fine, and I can flush it, but the water won't stay in the bowl.

I live in an area that has hard water. But I have never had this problem before. I called the city and they said it wasn't their fault. I can't take a bath or wash clothes with that kind of water. I called a plumber but it will be several days before they can come.
