I did this to my basement floor. I went to home depot and they had these stencils ., They are used to create a design on surfaces to look like cobblestone or brick. You paint the entire surface with a solid background color, then lay down the stencil and paint the separate stones or bricks in different colors of your choice. They have a special type of epoxy paint just for this particular purpose. I would recommend it for a patio, garage or basement floor, but a kitchen floor should have a surface that is insulated and comfortable for walking and standing. Cement floors are cold, and hard on the legs and feet.Sure, paint is cheaper but...........

I use a product made by Smith's Color Floor for concrete staining. It's easy to use, anyone can do it. You should be able to find it at a flooring supply store in your area. If not, I would be happy to help you. matt_matejka@yahoo.com
It is also very inexpensive. However, getting the glue up from the old vinyl is going to be a huge project.

It won't look all that attractive. If you don't have a lot of cash and want to go with the concrete, you could pour a light slab of white concrete. It'll get dirty, but it's easier to paint if you wanted to. If I were you I'd spring even for cheap flooring rather than the concrete.

Painted concrete can be dangerous. It can get very slippery in humid condition,s .Bruce flooring makes a engerined real plank floor that look,s like real hard wood flooring and can be glued on concrete,It will give your home a nice look.and will last for a long time and it can even be refinished just like real wood. You can get it at Lowe,s or Home Depot. Mine has been down for 2 years and still look,s good.

Personally I think it would look like crap. It was likely poured with the intent of a finishing layer on top, so my guess is it looks sloppy. I could be wrong as I've seen high quality counters made of poured concrete. But it was a special mixture, very smooth.

sure it may be clever to have a humid evidence membrane on a concrete or screed floor.Damp can come via a concrete layer. Then your underlay, the two in rolls or in fibre squares.verify that is all point till now the laminate is going down.

my husband and I remodeled an old garage/junk area in our home (given to us by family) and that whole area had concrete flooring... we simply power cleaned, scraped and washed it, then we painted it with floor/decking paint, put poly on top and now it looks beautiful... the only "cost" was buying the gallons of paint, which are relatively cheap compared to other flooring... we love it!!!

I think so. I've considered the same thing but havent gotten around to it. The stains can be toxic and you would need to be out of the home I think, but here's a link, hope it helps. http://acidstainsolutions.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/index.html
