Does anyone have any ideas on how to best deal with out of control devil’s grass/crab grass, WITHOUT using too much toxic chemicals, and without destroying some really good soil? I am trying to avoid using Roundup, but I’m losing my resolve since these weeds keep coming back. Any ideas on organic alternatives or natural ways to deal with it, or do I have to bite the bullet and go chemical? The soil is really good, 50+ years of leaves adding to the mulch, and I don’t want to kill all those nice microorganisms and decaying matter. I have dug down 8-10 inches and removed all the root I could get, very very thoroughly. Someone suggested I use plastic “WeedBlock” sheeting and put real dirt on top. But what if weeds grow in that real dirt, they put down roots to or through the plastic, and I have to use gardening tools to get them out? Seems hard to prevent tears. Any input and ideas are appreciated!

I have wood floors and dogs, and was told by a friend, who also has dogs, that she stopped using Swiffer because of the lead content. My dogs are my "kids", and would never, knowingly, use anything that could be harmful to them...just want to make sure the Swiffer info. is accurate, since the bottle contents don't refer to lead. But, like most labels, since I'm not a Scientist, I'm not sure!

Thanks for your feedback.

I see signs all over the place from new home developments, to election signs. Now some new home development signs have been placed in our yard near a street sign. Are they allowed to do this?? Shouldn't they at least ask first? It is my yard!

We are having a hardwood floor installed in our foryer since we had a flood (valve on bathtub broke) and the installing company never mentioned that they would be using a sludgehammer, and they never bother to cover anything to protect anything.

We switched the hot and cold water lines to the sink and the water pressure is still only low for the hot water. Therefore, it doesn't seem to be my faucet.

I am going on vacation for two weeks. I have not cut the grass in a week. The weather is expected to be dry and very sunny for those two weeks. I do not have an automatic sprinkler system.

I am wondering if I should not cut the grass to see if the length will protect it from the punishing sun.

Any advice?

& Home Depot they only have 12" x 12".(that can be stapled-others are for drop ceiling) I tore down the water stained ceiling that was up- the wood strips are in place for stapling the new 12" x 24".

This happens twice a year, early and late summer. This year was especially bad...thousands of the catepillars...hence thousands of moths. I'm in Marin county, just north of San Francisco. The trees are live oaks. I want to get rid of them but I don't like to use poison. (I will, though)
