What is a flume?
A flume is a waterwork with open water table, that leads water from a diversion dam or weir completely aside a natural flow.

A flue is a pipe or channel for conveying exhaust gases from a fireplace, furnace, boiler, or generator. Conventionally, it is the space inside a chimney where the smoke rises to the outside.

You need to keep the flue open until the coals are hot enought to maintain the flame. Then close it,

it should stay open, and I use the logs that are made so that creosote doesn't build up in fire place.
