I see signs all over the place from new home developments, to election signs. Now some new home development signs have been placed in our yard near a street sign. Are they allowed to do this?? Shouldn't they at least ask first? It is my yard!

Check with the city ordinances of your town.

In many towns, your property line may well end at the sidewalk, and although you may plant and maintain the grass between the sidewalk and the curb it is actually street right of way.

Although annoying, there may be nothing you can do about it or maybe you can petition the city to disallow such signs being placed in the areas between the sidewalk and the curb.

Good luck with your quest.

If its your personal yard, they must get permission. You may remove them and put them on the side, and wait for them to come to you and ask to put them up.

If you are renting and the owner has given permission, there is nothing they can do.

Most places, a sign in your yard, is your responsibility, and no one can remove it, or tell you what to do with it...

Unless they have special regulations, where you have to have a sign with in a certain distance from the street, or signs of a certain height.

Check with your local housing authority or your City or Municipal Building Inspector, and they will have the rules and regulations regarding this.

Oh, and regarding the sign in your yard, they probably have a 'right of way' of a certain footage, if a street sign is placed there. I dont think anyone owns thier own sidewalk, as its usually a "right of way" for utilities and all that, but, you have a right as a home owner to 'maintain' the walkway...

Aint that just something, eh? You dont own it, but you have to maintain it..or, if something happens and some one falls, your liable..sheesh!

Justice for everyone :)

I wish you well..

if you have a sidewalk in front of your yard, the small piece of grass from the sidewalk to the street is technically owned by the city, so it would be illegal for any political sign favoring one person to be placed there. if the sign is in your yard, and didn't have your permission, it is still illegal although more than likely won't be prosecuted. they will probably just be told to not do that if you were to fill out a complaint, unless they did it to many houses.

Contact your local police department to find out the rules. Most states have a right away just inside your property line.If sign is just outside this line it may be okay.If the sign is inside on your property then take it down.I think it is 5 feet on the right away. But regardless if it is I would still take the sign down because it is so trashy looking.I hate election time.

take the sign out of the ground and return the sign to the company that put it there with a note telling them not to put it in your yard again because your yard is nice enough with out the sign.

Some places yes
Some places no

Some places you could be executed for putting up a sign against the current ruling dictator.

I don't know about where you live, but in Tennessee, they are supposed to ask. If they do not ask, or if you tell them no, then you have the right to destroy whatever property they've put in your yard. I would check on your local laws though. It's different everywhere.

In the city where I live, they have to ask permission to put anything in your yard. If you don't want it there, I'd take it down and trash it.
