I don't guess I really have any particular styles that I love or hate. I help other people with their decorating problems because it's difficult for some people to put colors, patterns and textures together. Normally, when I go in, it's not to create a particular style room. It's to show that person how they can use purchases they've already made and with a few changes and tweaks, create a space that is uniquely their own.
We live in a society that tells us our home must look like something out a magazine or we're not doing something right, and people just don't live that way! Add a dog, a cat, three kids with fingerpaints and some red fruit juice, twelve pairs of shoes next to the door, and let's not forget all the paraphenalia that accumulates from the front to the back door and you have reality.
I believe decorating should be as individual as the person or the family that lives in the home and should reflect their personalities and interests. It's great to take ideas from shows or magazines and adapt them, but to try to lock yourself into a particular style is what makes people grow tired of the look so quickly. I guess you could say I am in a place where my home says who I am, and I hate pretense ( or trying to create a home that isn't me).

I avidly dislike cutesy country, although rustic is ok - in moderation. I also dislike contemporary, if that's what you call the sleek lines, metal, spare look (ala Ikea). I think feng shui is just plain silly.
I'm torn about the cluttered look - sometimes it's cozy looking, but I'd hate to clean it! And shabby chic - it's kind of pretty, but it just seems too fussy.
I like either the simple oriental lines where the emphasis is on form, or the overstuffed, comy look.

Sorry, but I LOVE Colonial and European! I like contemporary and modern if done right. If it's not done right it looks like something off of Star Trek. But I'm with you--I HATE country and I'm not too fond of Victorian. Too frilly.

My favorite decorating style is eclectic. That means combining styles to come up with a unique look. I'm a big art nouveau freak as well as art deco...but I enjoy a lot of different styles.
It's fun to find a balance between new and old styles too.

Ecclectic (is that how it's spelled?) I love to find groovy junk at garge sales, junk stores etc. I mix them with new stuff and it has a totally, cool, ecclectic "Dharma" look to it! Also, I love to use bold colors and unexpected things as decoration.
