Okay, I'm a little "out there" I guess. I like going to flea markets and thrift shops, etc. Most of the time I'll find an interesting picture, tapestry pillow or floor cloth that I take my color scheme from and then everything else just falls into place. Pier I has alot of great things as does World Bazaar and Pottery Barn. I love rummaging thru things at TJ Maxx, Tuesday Morning and Marshalls. They have closeout merchandise from high end stores in NY and LA that are not the typical linens and other items found in department stores. For $500, if you're a pretty saavy shopper, you should be able to include paint and/or paper and even a few chotskys!

Thrift stores, GoodWill, Salvation Army Stores will usually have a good selection of second-hand furniture that might need a little paint or cleaning. You may find, like I did, some good antiques or mid-century pieces that are really back in style now!

A room can get a totally new look just by changing these things: Bedspread, Rug, Curtains. lamp

Try Walmart, Target, any discount store. Also, second hand stores good for finding unusual items. And they're both usually very reasonably priced

Wal-Mart
K-Mart
