I got my lip pierced in November with a straight post and it was fine for two weeks, at which point I was eligible to change my post to a ring. A few days after the change it looked like the ring had split my piercing a little (on the inside of my lip). I figured it was probably normal and it would just heal over, but it turned into nothing more than a raised red bump. I waited weeks for it to heal and go away but it didn't. So I consulted my piercer. He said it wasn't infected, that it was "irritated" by something I must be doing. He said wait and see, that it might heal. But I'm sick of the bump (which gets smaller then larger and smaller then larger but never goes away) and I'm sick of the aftercare. I'm annoyed by this whole experience and just want to take the little sucker out, as I suspect it's not ever going to heal. So can one take their ring out themselves before it has healed? Or could that cause infection or scarring at the site? I just don't want to have to go back AGAIN.
