Whenever it's sunny, I close my right eye instead of squinting like a lot of people. Now, everything in my right eye is brighter than in my left eye. Have I damaged my left eye from too much exposure to the sun?

That's an odd habit but it's possible you changed the left eye depending on how old you are. The lens tends to develop a brown pigmentation in response to UV exposure similar to tanning. Also, UV exposure accelerates the formation of cataracts. Wear UV blocking sunglasses.

There's another possibility, that your right eye was always more sensitive than your left and that's how you developed that habit of closing it. You may have only noticed that recently. In other words, the sensitivity is the cause and the eye-shutting the effect instead of the other way around. If you haven't had an eye exam for a while, it might be a good idea. You can ask all the questions you want there.

I would advise you to see your optometrist. I have noticed a little of the same problem with my vision, but I think it's due to my astigmatism. In your case it's hard to say.
