I went to the doctor yesterday and he prescribed amoxicillin to fight the infection but what can I do in the mean time for the discomfort. I can’t sleep, eat, swallow, and I keep having to spit since it feels like some one is stabbing me in the neck and throat when I swallow.
So far I have tried...drinking tea, 3 different types of throat lozengers, gargling with peroxide and salt water, Advil, Excedrin, Sudafed and Tylenol.

Is there anything that will give me some relief?????

I woke up yesterday with a stiff neck, couldn't move it at all without severe pain, then later in the day my throat felt tight and now it hurts my neck to swallow anything other than fluids.. I love to eat so this is a serious problem for me.
Any suggestions? I can't really afford to go to the hospital.

I have had Fibromyalgia for 3 years now. i recently have had a lot more muscle pain especially lower back or kidney pain. Urine tested okay. No infection. I have also developed a butterfly rash on my face. Could the Fibromyalgia be mimicing Lupus? Other signs I should watch for?

I did yoga yesterday for the first time in awhile. Last night I woke up with a charlie horse in my foot.. one that wouldn't go away if i relaxed my foot for atleast 5 mins! OUCH ! Anyway, after it settled down I went to use the restroom and the bones in the same foot... shifted. The right side of the foots bones felt like they lifted up and were above the rest/normal. It hurt a little bit, but mostly felt REALLY weird! I rubbed my foot and pressed all my toes back (toward my knee like) and it shifted back after a min or so. Foot is achey today but not painful. Ever happen to anyone else?

I have a really big pain in my right wrist, the one I use with my computer mouse every day. The pain shoots up the outer side, and smoetimes aches underneath as well. The worst part is the bit where my hand joins my wrist.. where the bumpy bone pokes out its really red and pressured... even blisters occassionally and there is pain along the bottom of my hand, sweeping down from the thumb along the edge...

what is it? Is it possible it's RSI as I am on a computer every day using a mouse and keyboard...

My partner suffers from knee joint pain but refuses to take any painkillers as he says that masking the pain then carrying on as if there was no pain is dangerous. He just lets the pain limit his activities and reckons its his body telling him now far he can go. I asked my boss who is a pharmacist and he said he didnt know how to answer that.

Also a lot of people take anti inflammatories everyday semi long term just so they can continue working or doing their every day activities, which also seems wrong as what if they are doing more damage to themselves?

What are your opinions?

PS: im not after suggestions about my partners knee he is happy with his herbal remedies lol just wanna know your opinions about usage of painkillers

Her doctor or pharmacist? Thanks!!

She gets really weird every now and then... she starts slurring her words, falling asleep while doing anything (example: she'll fall asleep as she's reading or changing the TV channel, or even while eating); sometimes she gets really hyper... like obsessively cleaning to talking more than normal. She doesn't seem to notice that this is going on... she'll be falling asleep in her food, and then the next second she just pops her head back up, like nothing happened. When she does finally go to sleep, she breathes extremely heavy... so heavy she'll actually shake the bed. She has chronic migraines, so she uses something called Stadol Nasal Spray or other pain medicine. I've tried to talk to her about this, but it's really impossible. She gets very defensive and angry, and denies anything is going on. I don't know what to do... if this isn't naroctic dependence, then what could it be? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

The back of my neck hurts where it connects with my skull..mostly at the base of my skull. It gradually came on two days ago and pain has stayed about the same. It hurts to push my chin to my chest very hard, i can but it hurts to push hard. It hurts to bring my head up from lying down, or to bring my head back to look up, so I am thinking it's a muscle. I went to the chiropractor and he said my neck was really out of line but he popped it back into place and put me on electricity for a bit on my shoulder muscle, but it still hurts pretty bad. It also hurts when i swallow water, not solid food, but a big gulp of water makes my NECK hurt. I'm sure it's not a sore throat..Any ideas?

My mum has got really bad leg pains - she can't move her left leg cos its paining a lot, and she finds it really hard to balance and move.

First of all, what can I do to help her at home? Secondly, on a more general note, why don't doctors prescribe mild/weak local anaesthetics. I know people can become dependant on them, but sometimes if you have leg pains or whatever, couldnt weak anaesthetics really help you? I suppose the main worry is over dependancy, and forgetting that pain has a purpose. For example if you keep on using anaesthetics, and forget your legs paining, and then you injure your leg, it just gets worse and you can't feel it.

Thanks... I think I drifted off a bit!!!

I'v had a pain on the right side of my lower back and top of my bum. I've had it a week and i'm not the sort to keep running to the Dr's. Also today i've flu like symptons. Pain killers do the trick but wear off afterwards. Sitting down for two long gives me a limp. Any clues to what it might be. Can't see the Treage nurse till Monday.

For the past 7 days I have been experiencing some really extreme migraines and an irritating sore throat...

The migraines only occur on a morning and an evening. And when they do they are extremely painful resulting in me not being able to move my head or get up without feeling dizzy or sickly.

The sore throat is constantly irritating as I have to keep swallowing every 20 minutes or so. It worsens on a night time too.

I've tried taking Ibuprofen, Paracetamol Suspension and a cough syrup (Not all together, lol) but nothing seems to help. They don't even improve it.

I'm beginning to worry and I'm thinking of going to the doctor as a last resort as it seems quite like a minor ailment.

Any suggestions as to what it could be and how to improve it at all?

Much appreciated
x

My mattress is extremely comfortable but it hurts my back. I'll wake up with a sore neck and back, barely able to move until I take some ibuprofen. Lately I've been sleeping on my floor and couch, and the pain and stiffness and almost completely gone. My mom has promised me a new mattress, but with it being Christmas time we don't have enough for a new one right now. What can I do for the next couple months until I get a new one? I miss sleeping in my room, will I just have to sleep on the floor and couch? My brother kicks me off the couch when he comes over and spends the night, leaving me on the floor. It's fairly old.
