Yes depression is like any other chronic persistent condition. I have Arthritis, thankfully not depressed yet but at times.....
Christmas, well I see people my own age out enjoying themselves, while I cannot be part of that enjoyment due to physical disability, not being allowed to drink due to medication, so very much the outsider! Moreover, I have three siblings all older, who are married have kids, let alone extended family, cousins with kids and I sit feeling like the Grandmother at the age of 49! The sad part the fact they cannot and probably will never know what it is like to have a incurable persistent chronic health condition, so while they talk about what happened today at work, I sit and get bored. If I mention some new Arthritis treatment, well I bore them. My Siblings, Arthritis is off topic subject and it just goes on. On a positive note, when their life turns to sour grapes and they come running to me for advise, I just sit and think, If they cannot resolve this problem, no way could they live with Rheumatoid Arthritis! Therefore I am different insofar as I am a survivor and that is special and unique. Good Luck.

Yes, depression is a real illness and yes it causes pain, physical, emotional, and mental. Talk to someone close to you, get help.
Many, many people suffer from depression, in fact depression is as commom as the head cold. One big difference though is that depression doesn't go away without help..a cold will eventually.

Yup. Sounds like you are depressed. Depression is definetely something that comes from the mind. Because you think you're different, and you feel like you just don't add up or fit in with anyone; however, it CAN lead to physical pain.
Some signs of depression are:
*extreme irritation
*Feeling of hopelessness
*Lost interest in everything
*Appetite/weight changes
*Imsomnia
*Loathing yourself
*Aches/pains
*Inestability
*changes in your enviroment (bad day at work, etc.)
It can make you feel so lost and alone...but the best thing is going to a psychologist and telling someone who cares about you. They can make you feel better and with the psychologist, he or she talk to you and get to the root of the problem.
Hope I helped!
Good Luck: Jade
