or if i stay up to long? anyone ever heard of this or have the same problem?

Because you are not going through the sleep cycle. Sleep is important and you need to allow time for your body to enter the four phases of sleep. If you skip or miss a phase than the body will react. It is a bit like being fast asleep and then being woken up. You do not start to sleep again where you left off, but start again from the start.
