She gets really weird every now and then... she starts slurring her words, falling asleep while doing anything (example: she'll fall asleep as she's reading or changing the TV channel, or even while eating); sometimes she gets really hyper... like obsessively cleaning to talking more than normal. She doesn't seem to notice that this is going on... she'll be falling asleep in her food, and then the next second she just pops her head back up, like nothing happened. When she does finally go to sleep, she breathes extremely heavy... so heavy she'll actually shake the bed. She has chronic migraines, so she uses something called Stadol Nasal Spray or other pain medicine. I've tried to talk to her about this, but it's really impossible. She gets very defensive and angry, and denies anything is going on. I don't know what to do... if this isn't naroctic dependence, then what could it be? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Sounds like a heroin or methadone addict.Im extremely familar with that behavior.Ive been around it almost all my life sad to say.Fortunately for me,I never got into heroin or methadone.BUT i am a struggling hydrocodone addict.Ive done all types of opiates to satify my cravings.I would score my hydrocodone from heroin/methadone users .They would sell me hydrocodone that they probably jacked or got for real cheap so they could buy their heroin.I aslo have family members who were addicted to heroin and methadone.Sounds identical to all I have experienced...but I guess it could be narcolepsy..but I doubt it...its kinda rare.I will say,a heavy pain pill habit will show the same signs. My cousin takes so many pills sometimes, that he gets like that.It hard to say what she is on...But in my opinion...she is probably jaked up on stadol....stadol is a narcotic/opiate...here is a link

Part of this sounds like narcalepsy, other parts sound like restless leg syndrome, but none of these sound very much like side affects from drug abuse. However, since some drugs affect people differently, you might try doing some research about the prescriptions she uses, and the possible side affects from habitual/over-use.

The getting defensive and angry part sound familiar though, my dad is quite the crack addict, and I've been through that.

I would suggest getting more facts about the drugs in question though, before coming to any conclusions. If you determine that she is in fact dependent, I would bring it to her attention in the most caring way you can muster. But do understand, that addictions are very powerful. Often, the people that try to help the addict end up estranging themselves if the person refuses to quit the drug, since the addicts only 'friends' are the people who accept and/or enable the habit. Do the best you can, but remember you cannot make someone change against their will.

she is definitely dependent on some kind of drug of her choice . My brother did what she does often and denied it and got angry when confornted ... my parents finally found out it was drugs(all sorts) when he got into a heap of trouble and went to jail and eventually prison where he stayed for 7 years...he has been out for 10 years, he is now 44 years old and clean but only he knows if he will stay clean!!

doesn't sound like drug addiction. Good luck with talking to her. If you are too concerned talk to her parents
