I woke up yesterday with a stiff neck, couldn't move it at all without severe pain, then later in the day my throat felt tight and now it hurts my neck to swallow anything other than fluids.. I love to eat so this is a serious problem for me.
Any suggestions? I can't really afford to go to the hospital.

Yes, this could be something serious like meningitis (just giving an example only) but the only way to find out for sure is to see a doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think is going on.
For those in financial strait they can sometimes offer help in taking care of the costs such as to write it off if one has to go to the ER.
Check with your city's health dept to see if they offer free clinic services that may be able to help evaluate the situation further.
