I broke my thumb last week by accidentally getting it slammed by a car door. The break was in the area of the nail bed just above the end knuckle. The doctors placed a pen to hold the bone together while it heals. In a month they will pull it out and I'll begin physical therapy. What are my chances of being able to completely use the thumb again?

I am due to have my gallbladder removed on 8th august, but I am terrified because I keep reading about patients who have terrible symptoms post removal and wish they hadn't had it removed. These symptoms include, IBS, diarrhea, upper abdo pain etc. At the moment I suffer from gallstone attacks and get a lot of heartburn, nausea, reflux etc but I don't want these symptoms to get worse.

A removal has been recommended cos it is full of stones and so is my bile duct.

It's becoming so popular in some countries that people can bear the pain to go through, not one but a series of operations.
What do you think - is the pain, cost and consequences worth it? Thanks!

my boyfriend has a significant amount of trouble falling asleep and says that it often can take him up to two hours to fall asleep. in addition, he often has rather restless sleep which may or may not include fairly vivid dreams or waking up in the middle of the night. in addition, he says that sometimes when he even does get a full night's amount of sleep he will wake up still feeling tired. so, i was wondering what may be the cause of this inability and what if anything can be done to ease its affects (preferably through natural means, i.e. no prescriptions)?

I've had heartburn before and know what it feels like. This feels like heartburn that won't leave. It's a burning sensation and pain that peaks when I breathe heavily. It's located just below and to the right of my sternum. It seems that if I'm distracted at work or am really involved with something else I don't notice the pain, but when I am at rest or not doing much it flares up again. I know this is not normal for heartburn, but I have no clue what else it could be. Thanks.

Hi I'm taking these tablets for my (very) heavily sprained ankle and I was delirious with pain when the doctor at the hospital was telling me about them so I cant fully remember. She told me to make sure I dont take them on an empty stomach because of the strength of them and something else..... cant think.

But I've been taking them for 48 hours now, and my tummy muscles feel like I've done 6000 sit-ups. Could this be from the tablets?

Is there a way I can wrap my arch, heel & ankle up so I don't have to wear shoes all day?

What about the various arch supports at drug stores?

Which ones work the best & which are worthless?

I will NOT wear any shoe all day that "traps" my toes.

Are there good sandals out there with good support?

HELP!

It's not too bad yet & I don't want it to get too bad!

My diet is quite unhealthy, but I have never gained much weight.
It's been happening all my life, but recently it has been more noticeable.
My sleep patterns are often disturbed by episodes of insomnia... Furthermore, I will sleep for well over 12 hours, sometimes straight through several alarms, including my mother, who told me I talked to her. I have no recollections of any of them.
Other times I might be too scared to sleep as I also get quite paranoid over little noises. I keep the fan, or computer on in my room to prevent me from hearing them.

I have just gone through my last year of 6th form, which my school attendance and grades suffered due to the amount of sleep problems that crop up in very random orders.

What should I do?
