I am going to Peru for about three months. I need to take malaria prophylaxis. I would like to know what people would recomend.
I see from the UK doctors gudlines that there are several different types of prophylaxis. Has anybody had expreience of these.
Also, drugs like malarone are prohibitivly expensive and there is no way I can afford it. A friend of mine suggested I use doxycycline but tell my doctor I was going for a few weeks, get a prescription for that amount, and buy the rest really cheap in Peru. Is this a good cost effective strategy, and how easy is it to get a hold of this in Peru.
I also realise that I need to take precautions against being bitten by mosquitos too.

Thanks for your help.

Should I drink a hot or cold tea, I'm at work and i can’t go home so I need to feel better, I took some Tylenol but I'm getting sweaty and I feel like I'm going to fall asleep any moment. So do I go with cold or hot?

i like the heat, but christ its starting to give me the right hump now , no matter what you do its sodding hot and theres no wind or anything, its just that dry sticky humid heat, that gives you the right a hole as you just cant keep cool, tro top it all we are packing hous to move, so thats making us even hotter.

wish we could just have a storm and a downpour to freshen the air of something for a while at least.

Somehow, my 3 year old got ahold of a piece of fruit that had been stuck in a cabinet a few months ago. He ate some of it. How scared should I be??? (By the way, we keep a very clean house, we just don't know how this happened!!!)

The skin around my elbows and knees is darker now after I tumbled down a staircase. That was like two years ago and I still can't get rid of the blotches. Doctors in Kuwait suck and cant give me good treatment. Any suggestions? I need help seriously.

P.S.: I have very sensitive skin

It doesn't look deformed in any way, but it hurts (feels stuck) when I move it. I hit it yesterday while I was running on a tabletop. I'm not sure. Should I keep it straight (my comfort zone) or should I bend it (hurts)? Please don't just say doctor, elaborate.

You can hardly read the prescriptions they give you. No wonder there are so many problems with pharmacies handing a patient the wrong drugs!

Recently I have been going ot on my sundeck for 20 minutes of sun exposure. I figured if I used a sunscreen I would be out longer to achieve the same tan I could have in less time without. I know the dangers of the sun so I go out between 1:30 and 2:30 pm and I don't stay out to burn, I make sure to time it so I don't. I don't go out every week, just during the summer and not a lot. I don't seek the ultimate tan, just a light to medium one. My skin is average-sensitive, about a 3 1/2 on the scale to 6 (dermatologist chart).
