If only animals could talk, they could tell us what they wanted...but they can't, so mostly it's left to us to decide what's best for them, and that is hard....I guess the question is, how extensive is the paralysis? front legs, back legs, one side, etc....how old is the dog?....young puppy or old timer, are you going to be able to meet the needs of the paralyzed pooch...I have seen dogs that have their hind quarters paralyzed and sit on a kind of skateboard to move themselves around.....personally, if the dog was not able to feed itself, then I think it would be time to let it go...quality of life issues are not just for people....will it continue to be in pain and suffer?.....it would be kinder to end the life if it was a life of suffering.

This is a tough situation because it can mean a lot of work for the dog owner. However, the best clue is from the dog. Is the dog otherwise happy and healthy? Loves to eat and loves attention? This would be a dog worth keeping if at all possible. But if you have a dog in pain and look into the dogs eyes and see nothing but suffering and there is nothing you can do to alleviate the pain and the dog does not enjoy eating, then it is time with much love and hugs to send the dog over the rainbow bridge.
It is difficult to let go of a beloved pet - and also difficult to deal with an elderly pet. I had a 17 yo blind, deaf, confused, happy black terripoo that was a real challenge to care for during her last 1 1/2 years - but that wagging tail and happy trips to the food bowl were a sure sign of a happy pet. Cleaning up after the pet can be a challenge - but also a labor of love for all your pet has given you. Another pet recently had Cancer (hemangiosarcoma)- and even though she was only 10, her crying and inability to move were sure signs of pain and misery. I could have had her endure transfusions, emergency surgery, and radiation for the possibility of 6 more weeks but could not do that to my beloved pal.

It depeneds how he/she's paralyzed. If it's just one or two legs, then I would keep it. They actually have little wheelchairs for dogs. Also, is it permanent or is there a chance of him regaining control? My own dog ruptured a disk in his back and his back legs were paralyzed. However, though daily exercises he regained control, and can now walk, run, and jump. Just think carefully about one main thing, how will this affect the dog. Does his condition affect his happiness?

Dogs as pet are meant to keep us company and by playing with them it reduces our anxiety. However if your dog is paralyzed it becomes a burden to the owner and it defeat its purpose especially if its a walking dog....Example: How can a blind make use of an invalid dog.

I would keep him or her, especially if they had been in my family for a long time. Unless they have health related problems that are keeping them uncomfortable, but then i'd ask the vet for that information. =( Sorry to hear about your dog!

I THINK THAT WOULD BE A SAD SIGHT TO SEE. IF IT WAS MY DOG I WOULD HAVE HER/HIM PUT DOWN. IVE HAD TO DO THAT BEFORE WHEN MY DOG HAD ARTHRITIS SO BAD SHE COULDN'T WALK ANYMORE. I KNOW IT WAS FOR THE BETTER OF THE DOG.
