i've had a chronic dry (nonproductive) cough for 2 years now. i've had chest x-rays taken; they were clear. it's been a mystery for 2 years, until the other day, my doctor told me it was probably acid reflux cough. i told him it couldn't be acid reflux b/c i don't have heartburn, but he said people w/ acid reflux cough don't get heartburn. i still have to get tested, so before i do that, my question is: does anybody have acid reflux cough or know someone who does? if so, does the cough tend to go away when you sleep? mine goes completely away at night when i sleep, and whenever i'm lying down. also, i feel a pressure on my chest which causes me to cough. do you feel the same? let me know; thanks!

I know most people will say see the doc, but not everyone has insurance. Anyway, I had a simple cold last week but the past few days I have been having shortness of breath, a tight feeling in my chest almost reminds me of asthma but it doesnt go away. Some chest? pain, not severe, but there. When I cough I feel it more, but the cough usually only comes on when Im sleeping, or something during the day that irritates me like smoke or strong smells. Today when I was doing house work sweeping, dishes, my back started hurting so bad I had to keep sitting down. I usually never hurt just cleaning up around the house. I thought I heard before that a backache can come on with pneumonia but its not listed as a symptom. I have had no fever but my mom thinks I may have pnuemonia but I just feel stupid going to the doc with no fever, little cough, only shortness of breath and backache. So what do you all think. Please be serious. I dont have money to blow at the doc for nothing. Thanx!!

My dad was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in Sept 06. He seems to be on a rapid decline. He is in advanced stages and damage to his lungs is extensive. He is on medication but it doesn't seem to be helping and he has been refused oxygen as test showed that using it did not help him. I can only fnd a limited amount of info on the disease and I'm not sure what to expect. He is constantly breathless and can bearly walk around his home. It is so frustrating that nothing seems to be able to make him feel more comfortable. He sees a specialist every 3 weeks but inbetween appointments we just seem to be on our own. I know the outlook for him isn't very good. If anyone has experience of this disease then I would be grateful for any info.

I asked this question yesterday but didn't explain very well so i'll do it again. A 19 year old male goes to the Hospital ER (his family Doctor was all booked up for the Day) for a Strong Cough, and Tightness in the Chest. During the Exam the Boy's father tells the Nurse that he is concerned about his breathing, especially while he sleeps. The Nurse says that is what people do to blow of a Temp. the Doctor say's he hears a rattle which indicates fluid in the Lungs. He diagnoses him with Bronchitis without doing Chest X-Rays. Are there guidelines that say X-Rays should have been done.

We have moved from Ohio to Florida. We have a complete medical record, in-hand, which the new doctors will not look at (say it is not necessary). My wife has relatively severe asthma. This is her second pregnancy, the first went well because our doctor from home figured out what is safe and would work for my wife...the new doctors are ignoring her requests, and her records showing treatments that worked for her.
She has now been in distress for two weeks and has now just gone to the hospital. I'm lost, can anyone give me some guidance as to our rights and possible action to be taken?

I am asthmatic, and I have always had a question about the dosage. I've been told numerous times that I can only use my inhaler up to three times a day as necessary. I was told once that if I've used my inhaler three times already and i have an attack, that I'm not allowed to take the fourth no matter what.
Could someone enlighten me as to why this is? And what are the consequences of using it more than thrice in 24 hours?

My dad's got a problem. His breath smells very rotten and it stinks up the car. The smell is very strong and nauseating. It doesn't matter how often he gargles or brushes his teeth, and he has no gaping cavities, tooth decay, or anything like that.

He's a musician- has been for 35 years, playing classic rock & roll in smokey restaurants, clubs, and bars. So he's been exposed to plenty of second hand smoke in his time, but he's never been a smoker himself. The man is 57 now.

Could this be a warning sign for a serious condition, such as mouth / throught / lung cancer? He's had the bad breath problem for a couple years now and isn't hacking real hard or anything.
