I know most people will say see the doc, but not everyone has insurance. Anyway, I had a simple cold last week but the past few days I have been having shortness of breath, a tight feeling in my chest almost reminds me of asthma but it doesnt go away. Some chest? pain, not severe, but there. When I cough I feel it more, but the cough usually only comes on when Im sleeping, or something during the day that irritates me like smoke or strong smells. Today when I was doing house work sweeping, dishes, my back started hurting so bad I had to keep sitting down. I usually never hurt just cleaning up around the house. I thought I heard before that a backache can come on with pneumonia but its not listed as a symptom. I have had no fever but my mom thinks I may have pnuemonia but I just feel stupid going to the doc with no fever, little cough, only shortness of breath and backache. So what do you all think. Please be serious. I dont have money to blow at the doc for nothing. Thanx!!

A few years ago I experienced symptoms similar to what you are describing. I figured that they would eventually go away on their own. My parents showed up at my house and literally forced me to go to the hospital where it turned out that I did indeed have pneumonia. Even if you don't have pneumonia, I would go to the doctor if I were you, just to be safe. Besides, having chest pains or any difficulty breathing are always cause for concern and immediate attention.

Asthma comes in many forms and yes, it can cause chronic reduced lung capacity and shortness of breath that is not alleviated with water and reduction of activity. You may need an inhaler or something else. It could be asthma, pneumonia, or other respiratory problem. You may have been exposed to airborne chemicals that caused your reaction and cough. It could be a lot of factors. The fact remains if you are having shortness of breath, wheezing, and cough..you should see a physician..or at the very least a nurse practioner. I think your back may be hurting due to house work and is a seperate issue...it can aggravate the back. However, get your symptoms checked out before it gets worse.

You should probably see a doctor, is there a clinic you can go to with a sliding fee schedule since you don't have insurance. That may help you with the costs. Make sure you tell them that you need samples of the medicine so you don't have expensive prescriptions to pay for as well.
