I quit smoking 2 wks ago (after 15 years) and at 1st it was awesome! I could take the stairs and not get winded, had all this energy... I wasn't sleeping and was eating everything that wasn't nailed down, but hey.... it's worth it right? So then 3 days ago I start having trouble breathing. It's like my body desperately wants to take a deep breath and it just CAN'T. I really CAN'T fill my lungs! My 10 year old son has asthma, and after 3 days of this I am going crazy (it's like Chinese water torture), so I tried his inhaler (a no-no, yeah, I know) but it didn't help AT ALL. And I have no doctor and no money, so that's out of the question. Is this a normal symptom when you quit smoking? I've read what seems like 4 million online pages now about smoking and NONE of them say anything about this. I never had any breathing problems (besides the obvious) when I was smoking .... so what the hell? I can't even hold a normal conversation because it sounds like I'm going to hyperventilate! HELP!!

Do you think we as smokers should have as much right to smoke as the people who dont? Why cant people who dont smoke go out side to eat, or walk the other way. People say that smoking causes cancer but y is it that most people i no that have died from cancer didnt even smoke.. and alot of pregnant women that dont smoke have children with breathing problems and i had two children and smoked with both of them and they r never sick

O.k....so my Mom has alzheimers, is in the hospital for cancer, and getting a nutritiion treatment before she starts on the cancer drugs. They have an alarm on her bed so if she gets up, they can monitor where she is. However, they had her setting in a chair for awhile, just to get a break from being in bed all day. So the alarm is no good for this. And then we found her walking down the hall by herself. Another thing is, they don't ask her if she is thirsty. She does not know to eat or drink. You have to give it to her personally. And don't forget, she is in there for a "nutrition" treatment! Knowing her condition, shouldn't they do this on their own? Don't they legally have to? Should we be mad and demand this and stop being nice? And how can we remedy the getting out of her room by herself? I mean, shouldn't that NOT happen even once? What do you think?

My 22year old niece has suffered from asthma and constant chest infections all her life. Antibiotics don't work anymore. Her doctor said she had the lungs of a much older woman. Does this mean her health is going to shorten her life?

*WARNING* Some of you may find this gross so... ride at your own risk.

I realize that around 2-3+ months after you quit your lungs start to clean themselves out BUT something is going on now for me and it's only been 3 weeks since I quit. I had been a smoker for 20 years and 1+ pack a day for about 15 years (Menthol). When I would cough up the nasty stuff it was always yellow at most. Now that I quit, about a week ago I started coughing up Dark brown-Dark grey... In all my years smoking I NEVER coughed up anything that dark.

Is this normal this early?

My sister's feeling perfect and hasn't taken medication for 6 years, and can run faster than me. She has absolutely no lung inflammation/wheezing problems. She has no symptoms and hasn't shown anything. She's 12 now.

these are all the things i'm dealing with right now. the first three are ongoing every single day. is there anything that fits completely in with all of these? i can't say it's allergies and allergies alone it just doesn't seem like it. i live in an apartment, hopefully i don't get criticized for this, but i'm worried it's from all the second-hand smoke i'm breathing in. when i used to live with my stepfather he smoked 2 packs a day on the other side of the house and i'd wake up in middle of the night gasping for breath. he has lung cancer. i lived with him two years, and have been paranoid of cigarettes ever since then. i KNOW the people downstairs smoke, not sure about next door, but is it possible there could be another underlying cause? it sounds like all the symptoms of second-hand smoke, complete with the excess saliva and the BURNING EYES. burning eyes is a huge issue here, even eyedrops don't want to help

I plan on removing my cottage cheese ceiling so I can rid my home of asbestos. What is the life span of asbestos fibers? For example, if I remove the asbestos and for some reason there are airborne fibers, how long would it take for them to disappear? Or would they disappear?

Thanks.
