There has been a lot of publicity on the number of children that have died this winter from the flu virus. The news is advocating of having your child innoculated again the flu virus (flu shot). However, I don't feel this is enough. I have gotten the flu after I've had the flu shot before. What do you think?

I've been sick with a mono-like virus for about 11 weeks now and I have had just about every test done on me and everything turns out fine. The blood test comes back negative, but I think that I'm slowly starting to get better. I have daily headaches that don't easily go away!!! Has anyone ever had this type of sickness and how long did it take you to get back to normal? I am a competitive athlete and need to get back to my health!

Will people be required to be cremated due to death by avian flu? That seems to be the method used with birds and animals so far.

I was vaccinated in 1948, but I forget what it was for. It was common back then for all kids to get the vaccination before starting school. A cousin--about 20 years older then me--thinks it's for polio, but, if I'm not mistaken, that came out in the 50's or early 60's. So, what could the vaccination have been for?

At the cafe that I eat at, we eat in a buffet style line, but are served, if you will. I stand on one side of a counter, and th eperson dishes up my plate of food from th eother. So, here is my question.. If the line server sneezes into his arm, away from the food by about a foot and a half, are there any chances that it got on the food? He sneezed into his arm. The only problem I could see is him pcking up the plate after he sneezed. What do you think?

I've been sick for about two weeks. I went to the doctor a week ago and don't have strep; she prescribed antibiotics, but I didn't get them yet because I don't really think I have a bacterial infection. What do you think?

Here are my symptoms:

- irritated throat; junk in sinuses
- bad, slightly productive cough that hurts my back
- my eyeballs hurt; neck pain, stiff joints, headaches, general aching and exhaustion
- sweating a lot while asleep; sweating a lot for no particular reason
- can't tell if I have a fever; guess I might because of sweating
- glands aren't really swelled, but kind of hurt to touch

Does cold weather really give you a cold/flu? To late to answer to last post.

Because of the lack of sun exposure in the winter we get colds.

We would be healthier if we took cod liver oil in the winter months (Vitamin-D). The best part is that it supports the immune system and helps prevent colds and infections as well as middle ear infections.

We need 20 minutes of sunlight a day to provide adequate vitamin D levels. Ultraviolet light is subdivided into UVA and the even shorter-wavelength UVB radiation. UVB is the component that initiates Vitamin-D production in the skin.

We also store the vitamin D for up to 4 months in our fatty tissues. Most of us run low by February.

Although everyone is vulnerable to vitamin-D deficiency, especially in winter, certain groups are particularly predisposed. First, when exposed to the same amount of sunlight, elderly individuals produce only 20% of the vitamin-D young adults do. As a result, more than half of individuals older than 65 are vitamin-D deficient.
