Because we know how to stop the spread of HIV while other diseases aren't as easy to stop. Also, we can't cure HIV while we do have cures for many other diseases.

Because it is the fact that HIV leads to a weakening in the immune system that allows that person to die from other diseases that they would normally not get. Also like everyone else has already discussed there are cures for other diseases that are killing these people, but again due to their weak immune system these cures don't work due to the lack of antibodies and white blood cells (the targets of the HIV virus). We are still looking for cures on other diseases, however HIV is a global endemic and needs to be solved soon. Recently there has been a breakthrough that scientists believe they have found a weak spot in the virus that may be used to block the spread of the virus once contaminated.

HIV needs to be worried about because if it is not controlled, many people can get HIV, become seriously ill and die. We should be very aware as well as appreciative and kind to the courageous survivors of HIV/AIDS because they live every day with HIV and many of them fight for the HIV/AIDS awareness cause as well. HIV is spread through anal and vaginal sex (but not so much through oral sex, although there are a few cases). It is also spread by intrevenous drug use: meth and heroine are the common needle-using drugs. And it can be spread from mother to child either shortly before birth or during birth or from breast-feeding. There is a 23% chance that an HIV-positive mother will give her baby HIV if she does not use any medical treatment. As for more common interactions, HIV can not be spread by sharing razors, toothbrushes, and other utensils or dishware. It can't even be spread from hugging or kissing, or from mosquito bites. Therefore, you can consider yourself in the clear if you COMPLETELY abstain from sex or drug use.

HIV leads to AIDS. It is not AIDS that kills the person but other commen things like the flu or pnemonia. AIDS weakens a person immune system and decrease the amount of white blood cells in a persons body. People are very concerned by HIV spreading because it can spread very easily. Having sex with a person with HIV/AIDS will cause you to get it, sharing needles, even toothbrushes and razors cause you to get it, sharing blood can cause you to get it. If your Mother has HIV/AIDS, she can give it to her child when she gives birth. That is why people are so concerned about it. There is no cure for it and it spread easily.

The reason they are worried is because it compromises the immune system and makes it susceptible to other illnesses. Its not the HIV/AIDS virus that kills its the diseases and / or viruses that you contract while having the disease.
