HIs brother complains that the podiatrist is acting too slowly. His brother (actually another kind of doctor) wants him to get a second opinion with an eye toward more aggressive surgery, as the tip of his big toe has already fallen off from gangrene.

A family of 7 just moved next door to me,
And I recently came to find out that the father that owns the house,
Has diabetes ( type 2 )

- I felt absolutely terrible for him...
So I have been trying to figure out what foods he should be eating on a daily basis, & what foods he should avoid because he suffers from diabetes?

I'd like to note, that they are a Mexican family,
His wife mostly cooks Mexican foods for him...
So if you have any ideas for what kind of Mexican
food you can find that would help his diabetes,
American food counts as well!!!!

Any advice or opinions would be so greatly appreciated!

My husband is diabetic but he can have natural sugars. It's only a problem with added sugar like that of table sugar.
I bought some honey today but it doesn't show the ingredients.

I’m just worried and hopeful to fit my problems. I have been hypoglycemic for many years. Last year I was pre-diabetic at GTT 2 hr 187 mg. I now feel horrible, tired, dry mouth, shaky and only sugar can stop my fainting. I went for a few tests with my GP and the only thing that came back is abnormal lipid, a high triglyceride over HDL ratio, is insulin resistant. I went to an Endo and did a few tests. I did my first GTT and the clinic would only test me at 2:20 hr not 2 hr. I took my glucose monitor and it showed 168 mg. I’m worried the doctor will not fix me because I am not diabetic. The weird thing is in the morning, my glucose is somewhat stable, but later during the day it goes to 250 mg. I am eating healthy, work out and was not overweight, until last month I gained 10 lbs, I don’t know why. I maybe need reassurance that my Endo will take care of my problems. How accurate is the home glucose monitors, I have the Accu-Check Active. Thx

When first diagnosed I was put on Avandia and Amaryl, my new doctor suggested I just try Metformin but my blood sugars shot up to over 400, I'm now on Metformin and Avandaryl (a combination of Avandia and Amaryl) but I still don't know if it's a combination of both. I'm going to ask my doctor but I wanted to get a heads up before I do....Can someone explain what each medication is fighting (helping)....Thank you

My Mum doesn't have it, but her two sisters do.
Her Mum & Dad didn't have it, but their brothers did and 3 of them have had legs amputated as a result!!!
I'm overweight, most of my weight being at my midriff and approaching 40.
I eat very little meat or fried foods, no fizzy drinks, my carbs are mainly pasta and multi/high grain bread and rice, I use olive oil & olive spread when I need them, I do tend to eat more refined sugar products than neccessary but I'm trying to change that now and I'm looking around for an exercise bike with the moving handles to push & pull so I can exercise more (like 5hrs a week+).
I indulge in a slice of pizza with a salad a couple of times a month and sometimes enjoy fries or a choc sundae from McDs, again I'm trying to cut these out, I don't 'binge', just eat sometimes (I don't drink or smoke, food is my only vice).
I smoked for 17 yrs and drank a lot but quit both 4yrs+ ago.
I had gestational diabetes.
Am I heading for a diabetic crash or not?

My father was diagnosed with diabetes when he was in his late thirties. My mother was diagnosed with it when she was 58 but probably had it earlier than that. Also, my father was obese and died at the age of 53 due to heart disease. I was wondering if there was anything I could do for myself. I am 30 and quit smoking recently, but other than that, I am healthy and at my ideal weight. Needless to say, my family history isn't very promising. Am I doomed to develop diabetes? I can accept it if I am but would like to avoid the family fate if possible.
