Absolutely preventable. It's a lifelong committment, though. If you act like you have it right now, and eat properly and exercise, you aren't likely to ever get it. Also, it wouldn't hurt to read my diabetes info webpage and get the book I mention by Patrick Quillin. Here's more:

You have done everything I would suggest except exercise. A half hour of daily exercise will help as well.
I don't think anyone can answer the inevitability of your situation. I was diagnosed at about 53 with type 2. I had the condition for at least five years before being diagnosed. We know that because feet and leg pain (neuropothy) was the reason I got tested. I am now 59 and not yet insulin dependent. Honestly I think if you are going to get it you will get it and if not, you won't. Taking care of yourself is never a bad idea but whether or not it will prevent diabetes is anyone's guess in my opinion.
Do get tested annually. Your doctor will be the boss but if I was ordering the test I would order an A1c test. It will give you an average blood sugar reading for up to 90 days preceding the test. The whole point of this is to catch it early. If you do, you won't be like me, unable to walk any significant distance due to the nerve damage.
If there is anything else you need, I am available through my profile. I will help if I can. Good luck on this one, I really believe luck is the only difference between those who have it and those who don't.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.
I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

family history plays a part in whether you are succeptable to diabetes. there are a variety of things you can do to help prevent it. quitting smoking was your first very smart move. maintain an ideal body weight. having a BMI of between 20-24 is ideal. anything over 24 is leading to risk of heart disease and obesity. your diet is also very important, by this i mean what you eat. you don't have to be on a strict diet. some tips to consider when deciding what to eat... -include 3-4 servings (1 c raw, 1/2 c cooked) of veggies per day, include 2-3 servings of fruit, limit your fat intake to >10%. one thing that helps is to remember to stay away from fried foods. this will decrease your fat intake and help cholesterol levels too. when eating foods that are not so good for you remember to eat it in moderation. exercising is VERY important too! 30 min, 4-5 days a week will help tremendously. as you try to keep diabetes from getting you, remember a healthy lifestyle is the first step to prevention. good luck!

From everything I read I think adult diabetes is self inflicted by either too much alcohol or bad eating choices , including overeating. So if you abstain from overeating and eat healthy and only drink moderately, exercise regularly, then you shouldn't get diabetes.

Stay lean and keep your fast acting sugars low (candy, pop, etc). Exercise daily.
Obesity is the leading cause of Type 2. If you stay healthy, you might miss the bullet; though heredity is a tough master. As it is, Type 2 is very manageable and will impact upon your life in a very small way if you are already able to care for yourself in other ways.
