Why?

Since you;re talking about coverage to decrease the immediate level, a quick-acting insulin like Regular (takes about 30 minutes to get working) would be advisable. As stated above, Hyumalog would be even better, as it's effects are more immediate, taking effect within 15-30 minutes. NPH is a slower-acting insulin, taking much longer to begin wroking effectivel, and much longer to peak.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Read here https://tr.im/iW6jP
Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

While all of these answers are good ones, I would have to say the best insulin would be whichever the DOCTOR prescribes. Glucophage pills help a little, but nothing drops that blood sugar like a good shot of insulin!!!!

It really depends on the person. I recently started using insulin and the first type the doctor gave me did NOTHING. That does not mean it does not work, it simply means it does not work for me. Sometimes people have to try different types to find the best one, and some people even take combinations.

Reg. is a faster acting insulin use this, but novolog is better. NPH is slower acting, Lantus is also slower acting it levels off better with less high pikes.

Lantus, so far, has been working for me very good. I have been on it for 2 months now and my glucose readings have been on acceptable levels.

If the only choices were regular and NPH, regular would give the quickest decrease. Humalog would be even quicker.
