I have type 2 diabetes for a little over 4 years. I take metformin 3 times a day, avandia, one a day and was taking 5 mg of glucotrol a day. My blood glucose was doing well until November of 06. My doctor raised the glucotrol to 10 mg a day. It didn't seem to make much of a difference. On February 5, I started taking 10 mg of glucotrol twice a day. Still no improvement even with my morning fasting numbers. What's the problem here?

My son is type 1 diabetic, since the age of 8. He's now 29. His kidneys recently stopped functioning (we're told the diabets has damaged them), and he started dialysis 4 hours a day, three days a week, when he developed a high fever and pneumonia, which put him in the hospital for several weeks. The doctor said it was CMV? Is this caused from diabetes? Is this something he'll have to live with the rest of his life? It was pretty bad, ending up in the ICU on a ventilator for a few weeks. Any hep is appreciated.

My 35 year old sister has been diagnosed having diabetes a year and a half ago. Although she takes maintenance medication, she's not into insuln injections since she could regulate her sugar levels through her diet. The breakouts had become itchy and I'm concerned about her condition and maybe a few suggestions would be welcome on some over the counter products that might work to reduce or eliminate ther acne. thanks

I recently had the revelation that I'm addicted to sugar. I'll go on restricting diets and then fail miserably and binge eat till I'm sick. I sit and eat cookies and chocolate till I'm uncomfortable and sick. A few weeks back, I had a blood test that revealed my resting glucose level to be on the lower end of normal. Is this a product from years of binge eating simple carbs (hyperinsulin production)? Would that prevent me from losing weight if I went on a normal diet? Would sugar addiction explain an absent menstrual cycle?

i am 30 weeks pregnant. i have had a rough pregnancy so far. rough meaning low progestrone level in the beginning, high blood pressure going into the pregnancy, being put on bed rest since january, and now high sugar levels. i did my one hour glucose tolerance test and my sugar levels came back high. i went in the other day for the three hour gloucse test and got my results back today. sugar levels still high. im being sent to a dietician. my doctor doesnt think ill need to be put on insulin since i dont have too much longer to go. my doctor thinks that with a change in diet will work. does this mean that i have gestational diabetes? Does this also mean that my baby will have diabetes?

I'm just curious. I see quite a few answers by people claiming to be a nurse. Some of their answers fall somewhere between ill-informed and just plain stupid. If you are a nurse, and haven't researched your answer, maybe you should do some homework and not stoop to an opinion as so many seem content to do. If you aren't a nurse and are posing as one, you don't belong here.

Dr started me out on Metformin, 1 a day for 2 days than 2 a day 500 mg each, this is the third day after checking my sugar levels, they have been low, today after my meal I got a reading of 59, testing two hours later, I was borderline but last lab work came back reading of 170, but even when I was borderline and on no meds, I bought a test kit and blood sugar always seemed not gar out of range or mostly on range, reason he put me on Metformin was he wanted to be safe till I lost about 40 pounds, this is all new to me, today he said cut back one pill, and eat more calories, should i get another opinion or go to a specialist, thanks for any advise. Could it be the Metforminakeing my level to low on my diet.

I don't have diabetes and I don't drink alot of water, either. What could cause full relief of the bladder at least three time before 10 a.m. every day. More if I counted the rest of the day.
