I have had many loved ones die from cancer. It seems to run in my family. One thing I never understood, is the pain factor with cancer patients. I was always told that cancer was extremely painful, but my question is where does it hurt and how painful is it? What type of pain is it? Is it sharp pain or a throbbing pain? I am just curious. Is cancer the worst pain you ever felt? Are there any drugs that really take the edge off, or actually make you feel better?

or, if you've had it before, what was your reaction?
and would if be different if you knew it was deadly in your case?
i'd probably be shocked for a while and then start crying like forever, even if i knew i was going to be better. just the thought having surgery and getting chemo (losing my hair and becoming really weak) would freak me out.
i don't mean for this to be offensive for people who have had cancer, this is a serious question.

Please answer if you have taken this or know someone who has. I know there are those out there that think that only modern medicine can "cure" a disease. I'm not interested in a debate.

Okay, I just turned 24 and I have 3 sons and 1 stepson. I quit breastfeeding about a year ago b/c I noticed a small knot in my right breast, just beneath my nipple, and it became painful to nurse. I went to my ob/gyn and she said it was just a clogged milk duct, so I payed it no thought. Last October, I visited her again b/c my menstrual cycle was all mixed up, and she then suggested a breast ultrasound. Due to various reasons, I did not have it sonogrammed until last week. Today the radiologist called to schedule a biopsy asap, and my nerves are a mess. It is not a clogged milk duct. So what is it? What are the chances that it is cancerous? How serious is it , considering I noticed it about a year ago? Anyone had this experience? Should I be really worried? or is this common?

The doctors are saying that 1 treatment and 3 weeks off for 12 weeks (total of 3 treatments) won't make you too sick to work. Is this true? I thought chemotherapy in general made you sick.

Please answer only if you have experience with chemotherapy.

Thanks

My uncle is dying. He has cancer and he has exausted every means of help for medical expenses. The government has even taken his tax check from him because of medical expenses. His house is in foreclosure because he was going to catch up with his tax check. He even received a letter from the senator, saying that there is no more help for him in the system. After all the chemo, it killed the cancer off. Well now he has a cancer on his liver and he would need more chemo to kill that and prolong his life. Does anyone know of any NON-Government agency that would help even if it was just to pay for his house so he dont lose it? Does anyone know of anywhere I could direct him to go?

I am a 27 non smoking/non drinking female. It all started with a ear ache about 6 weeks ago followed by a sore throat about 2 weeks later. I went to the e.r. with severe pain in my neck, coughing up blood, and ear pain. They checked me for strep which was neg. and sent me home with a 10 day antib. I called my reg. dr. in tears because it hurt to hold my head up. He called me in rx pain med and saw me the next day. He said he thought it was viral and we would treat the symptoms. It seems I have only gotten worse. 4+ weeks now and I still have the sore throat and ear pain but now have difficulty swallowing and talking and have the feeling of something stuck down in throat. Also I have developed 8 painless swollen lymph nodes in my neck and now 1 in my clavical. The first ones have gotten a little bigger as they seem to spread. Each one starts pea size then gets a little bigger. I have not had any fever at any time during all of this. Also I have lost 42 pounds in the last 4 months.

I have the pain at other times too, but almost always when I eat something. I have had breast cancer, and angiosarcoma but all tests have come back clean. I'm a bit worried about this pain. I have difficulty remembering names and faces, difficulty with identification of and verbalization about objects, difficulty with concentration, short term memory loss, long term momory loss, and difficulty locating objects in an environment.

We were talking in my biology class about cancer and if someone found the cure their name would be famous for ever, but probably wouldn't make any money because the Gov't would take it and send it staight to Africa. Does the US care more about us or Africa? So what do you think?

My husband has been on Decadron for 2 months. 2 weeks after release from the hospital following gamma knife surgery for a brain tumor, the doctor said to cut his 4mg in half. So he had 2 mg twice a day. After about a week he started falling down and could not walk or speak clear. So he was put back on the 4mg twice a day. Has anyone experienced this, if so how did they take you off the steroid? Thanks for your answers. Email me with details if you wish.
