I have had many loved ones die from cancer. It seems to run in my family. One thing I never understood, is the pain factor with cancer patients. I was always told that cancer was extremely painful, but my question is where does it hurt and how painful is it? What type of pain is it? Is it sharp pain or a throbbing pain? I am just curious. Is cancer the worst pain you ever felt? Are there any drugs that really take the edge off, or actually make you feel better?

i had cervical cancer, and it wasnt really painful but it wasnt progressed very far, bone cancer and pancreatic cancer are very painful as i understand and lung cancer you get all panicy because you cant get a breath. every cancer is different and every person reacts to it differently, they gave my mother morphine the last couple of months but she only took one pill because she was afraid of it. ofcourse you only get that if you are terminal. they do give you painpills if you need them.

I had ovarian cancer when I was 23, 6 years ago so i'm considered cured. I was not in any pain and the only thing that made me know it was something was i'm on the skinny side and felt what was as big as an orange or baseball, lump on my lower stomach. So I got it checked and they removed my ovary, fallopian tube and appendix and thank god, they got it all out and I was fine. I thnk the pain starts later in the stages. I was in stage 1A. My mom in law passed from lung cancer a few months ago and her first complaint was coughing up blood and she felt like her lungs were on fire and she thought it was an abcess, or infection. She never got a chest x-ray and she should have. When she ended up in the er a few months later, it had already spread to her brain. I saw her in alot of pain. I can't even tell you exactly where or why. I think as it progresses and spreads to organs, bones, it just really hurts them. She got to the point where she would not get up from the recliner for 5 days and we couldn't get her up. But she didn't want us to call the doctor b/c she knew she was just getting worse and would end up in the hospital. That is what happened. It was spreading and it just caused her so much pain and it's hard to watch it happen to someone you love. Morphine helped her more than percocet, but at that point it was just a matter of time before she passed away. She was completely out of it and you can't even tell if it's the cancer or the drugs.

will the only why i can answer your question is taht sometimes you feel pain, and then there are times you don't relize you have anything,i survied cancer twice.the first time yes it was very painful, the second time i did not know that i had anything.my 19 yr old son passed away from luekemia and bone cancer and he could not stand you to even touch him softly,so you see it can be very painful where the drs.give you strong pain meds.to help with the pain and all you do is sleep so you do not feel the pain so much,or you have no pain at all.
