My husband has been on Decadron for 2 months. 2 weeks after release from the hospital following gamma knife surgery for a brain tumor, the doctor said to cut his 4mg in half. So he had 2 mg twice a day. After about a week he started falling down and could not walk or speak clear. So he was put back on the 4mg twice a day. Has anyone experienced this, if so how did they take you off the steroid? Thanks for your answers. Email me with details if you wish.

I had a huge initial dose of decadron - 16g per day, for an emergency. We had three attempts to get me off. I started by coming down fast and had a similar reaction to your husbands. Then I came down by one gram per day per week, from ten grams per day in week one to one gram in week ten. It worked in the end and I was fine after.

I think it is unusual to have so much trouble. I blogged the whole process for my doctors in different cities and they appear to be thrilled to have all the details. Oh, good.

Hope things settle down for you.

You must be gradually weaned off of steriods. Otherwise it will put your adrenal glands into shock by just stopping it cold turkey. Are you sure it's the decadron that caused the syncopal episode? You mentioned that he was treated for a "brain" tumor.
