I can hand sew and use a sewing machine but I've never followed a pattern before. I'd like to start sewing some of my own clothes but I'm a little nervous about using a pattern.

Any tips?

I have concert tickets, sporting events, museum tickets, you name it. I've thought about making a poster, but I don't want to damage the back of the stubs. Any suggestions on what do do with them or how to prevent damage to the backside?

I used to build model cars when I was a kid, and they would usually turn out looking like crap. So instead of displaying the finished product, I would just end up destroying them with firecrackers (which was fun at the time). Does anyone know how to get them to look like the examples shown on the boxes?

Especially if you've worn a mascot suit before,
Can you help me? I have considered buying a penguin mascot costume. But, I need help. How do you put it on,

The penguin suit has the following parts:

A bodysuit, (with a zipper in the back), head (or beak), flipper covers, and feet.

What is the right order to put on the parts of the suit,

Also, do you need to tuck in the flaps on the head?

Would appreciate your help, thank you =)

Hi seamsters and seamstresses! I just bought a gorgeous knit dress (a fine, drapey 100% poly/spandex jersey) that needs to be shortened about two inches so I can wear it on New Year's Eve.

The original hem has been serged. I do not, however, have a serger (only a conventional sewing machine with zig zag). What's the best way to shorten this? I'm afraid my zig zag might maul the fabric. I'm pretty good with hand-sewn invisible hems but have never attempted it on a knit. If I go the hand-sewn route, how wide should the hem be?

Thanks much!!!

Hi There,
I live in the UK, and recently bought a zippo hand warmer from China, due to them not being on sale here and me being a bit of a zippo fan boy, down side of course, chinese instructions.

I was wondering if any americans could give me a run down of the instructions of how to use it quickly? And if theres anything else I should know.

Am I supposed to fill it, light it, wait for it to burn out and then use it? Or, something else, I really have no idea other than how to fill it.

Any help appreciated! Thanks!
