It depends on the fiber content more so that the way the fiber is woven. If it's a natural material such as cotton, wool, silk, rayon or linen, then it can be dyed. If the fiber content is synthetic, such as polyester, dacron, acrylics, then it can't be home dyed. Polyesters are dyed while in the liquid polymer state or they are dyed through high heat and caustic chemicals which can't be done at home due to the toxicity of the chemicals. Dharma Trading sells dye and their website is the best source for information on dyeing. Also, Rit Dye has a website with tips and tricks for using their home dye products.

Have you found any dye? If so read the package and see what it says. At some point suedette was dyed before you acquired it so there must be something somewhere that will change the color.
