I am making dresses for my bridesmaids and am trying to choose fabric. Is crepe-back satin difficult to work with? I've heard that regular satin is quite slippery? I don't want the dresses to go wrong!

Thanks for your help!

I am a beginner knitter, and I recently learned how to purl. Pretty sure I'm doing it right, because I come out with a pretty nice stockinette stitch when I alternate knit and purl. Here's my problem. i knit ambidextrously - continental knit right handed with the knit stitch, and then just do the same thing going the other way (which should be purling, because it's the exact opposite, right?)

anyway, the thing is, the purling is 'awkward' feeling, like it's harder to get into the stitches.. am I just knitting too tightly? or am I doing it wrong?

Switching between rows in general feels awkward whether or not I'm knitting and purling both in right, both in left, or ambidextrously.

Help appreciated!

I'm thinking about making handbags with my first sewing machine but I'm clueless when it comes to how much fabric costs.

Where can I find cheap, cool, funky fabrics like those at: [link]

I would buy them there, but the fabrics are $8-14 per yard.

Is that the price I will find everywhere for fabrics like that?

I found fabric at my local Wal-Mart and craft stores for $1-8 per yard. However, they are either solid colors or have licensed character printed on them.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Balloon Car:
Materials Needed

half-gallon milk carton
balloon
straws
4 spools
some straight pins

Instructions

The milk carton can be the body. Wash out your carton and cut off the top.
Then, cut it in half the long way.

Cut a small hole in the middle of one of the short sides of the carton. This is where the balloon goes. You'll probably have to mess around with the size of the hole. If it's too big or too small, there won't be enough force to move the car.

Put the balloon through this hole, but don't blow it up yet.
The next thing you do is make holes on each side of the carton for the axles and stick straws though these holes. Make sure they're close to the bottom.
Then attach the spools to the straws and put pins through the straws to keep the spools on.
Now, blow up the balloon – don't tie the end – and let your car go!

I knitted a scarf from Patton's Bohemian chennille yarn. It is washable and dryable. Everytime my husband wears it it stretches out! it just keeps getting longer and thinner! How can I get it original shape back and prevent it from stretching more?

I'm aware of the bigger craft shows in Kennesaw and surrounding areas throughout the year, but I am a smaller scale hobby crafter. Are there any small craft shows in Cobb County, like those usually sponsored by Church groups?

I had a baby a few weeks ago and received a silver birth certificate holder as a gift for the baby. It's beautiful, but it has his name engraved on it and his name is misspelled! I imagine I am drawing at straws asking this, but can it be fixed?

All of the pieces have been cut out and I've done about half of the stitching. My problem is that I have to attach the pieces when it's done and I'm not sure how to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've seen these on TV a few times and we had a blast with them years ago in gym class. Basically, they're about a foot and a half in length, have a rubber "hilt" molded to look like thast of a pirate's cutlass, and instead of a blade they have a pillow-like end--it sort of looks like an oversized hotdog, about a foot long and 6-8 inches in circumference. It's got a cloth exterior and if soft inside. It's for pillowfighting. I want to but some for my family. I've done various searches and even looked in recreation calendars provided by our local gym teacher--all to no avail. Can anyone give me some direction on this?

I always wanted to collect things and I can't think of one thing to collect. It has to be something cheap and not so expensive like about 1-5 dollars. My friends are going to trips all the time and they ask me what they should bring for a souvenier for me and i really don't know. Please tell me some ideas.

Okay. I have just cleaned out my old cases of CD's (computer games, mostly) and have about 200. I was wondering if there is any thing anybody out there has done with them, becuase throwing them out would seem like such a waste. I don't know what things to do, but just like odd crafts, or something like that. Also, links for directions would be helpful, ; ).

How do you tell which is the "bad side" of fleece? I'm making a blanket and it's got a pattern on it, is it the side where the pattern is darker? Because, one side is darker but the other one looks more, well, blanket like per say. Like it would pill faster. Which do I want on the inside of the blanket?
