Looking for a way to make personalized coins at home. May be plain (stamped only) or fancy (colored enamel) style.

You can make coins from polymer clay. Carve both sides of a coin onto wood or a rubber eraser. Stamp both sides onto separate pieces of polymer clay, then bake the clay. Now you have a mold for both sides of your coin. Stick clay in between the 2 mold pieces, press them together and then trim the edges, and bake your coins.

I was going to suggest polymer clay or precious metal clay but both have already been suggested.

Another more elaborate way is with smelted pewter. I had some pendants and coins made at a medieval fayre, the pewter liquidified and set quickly. The man made his own designs by carving soapstone.

If you had metal in mind, there's also Precious Metal Clay. Follow the first of Kacky's directions for forming, then it's "fired" following the manufacturer's directions. It's often used for pendants and charms. It should also work for small coin-like items.
