Hobbies & Crafts - December 2007

I like and love R/C cars when i was small i had a few ... Now im 14 and my mom and dad don't let me spend any money... i have no hobbies at all and thought about car models / rc cars and so on... Does anyone know a cheap hobby in this sorta region cars and stuff.. Max i can spend is around 10£ a week ( i get 10£ a week to eat from the school canteen but im willing not to eat for a good hobby).. Dont just post telling me what to do... Tell me where to start and where to buy things from .. i live in the UK, England , Birmingham, Thanks.

I just recieved a 1mm beading cord for Christmas, and am having a few issues getting it to knot because of how slippery it is. Does anyone have any hints or knots I could use so that the jewelry I'm making doesn't keep coming apart every time I use it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's worked from the top down. I've already made the crown, but don't understand how to transfer it over to start the body.

Hat Body
Work all sts onto larger circular needle as follows:
Next Round: [K to last st on needle, k this st together with first st of next needle] 4 times. The last st of the round will be worked together with the first st of the round. Place a st marker after this st to indicate beginning of round.

I don't understand what I have to do four times - clearly the pattern doesn't call to knit the round four times.

Also, I don't have circular needles, so I'm just going to keep using my DPns.

I don't know if anyone's heard of this site before, I saw a card like this today though and I'm desperate trying to find it.

It was a Christmas Card someone made online, and on it she got to choose faces and make them look like the members of her family by choosing their facial features etc.

Hi, I need your advice on a project I will work on very soon. It involves the element in the title. More specifically, I want to paint the object below with colors of metallic silver, gold, and etc, then apply a clear glossy finish.

I'm sure you'll agree that that will look much better and elegant than the original. Well the problem is, I'm not sure how to approach this. I was thinking of using Krylon Fusion paint after peeling off the colored stickers, then apply gloss. But should I sand? Apply a primer? And also, some tips on my project? Thanks!!

P.S. I'm not that much of a geek...really. I just love challenges. I want the model to look like an attractive paperweight if I can't solve it. (most likely.) :)

Well, my friends birthday is like around May but I just recently thought of this idea. Basically he's a big 'Vital Signs' fan (which is a pakistani band which i dont know much about, but i know they broke up more than a decade ago) anyways, I look on eBay and googled around for any Vital Signs T-Shirts but I couldnt find any. So I thought of getting one made, by sending in their logo to some t-shirt making place. This is where i am wondering, Is this legal? If so, where can i get this done at what price, I live in Mississauga, Canada so i would want something local or mail would be fine i guess...
Also how is this for a gift idea?

I'm trying to make a giant bobble head...but just the head. You can buy mannequin heads online, made from foam and/or other substances, and I'm thinking that might be a start, but I want to be able to turn it something that I can kind of ventriloquize like a dummy.

Again, I'm thinking kind of one of those cyrogenically frozen heads like in the TV show Futurama, but with a jaw that can open and close on demand. I also need to be able to dress it up to make it look like Abraham Lincoln. Any ideas?

I am trying to find a site(s) that shows tutorials on how to make people. Ive found alot of tutorials on many interesting things/effects, but cant seem to find anything on the creation of people.
