I am making a memory quilt for my mother in law. I want to include pics of the family on it. I have tried printing them from home but they don't turn out well. Where can I send them so that they will look great but not cost a fortune?

You can purchase fabric sheets to run through your own printer. Some are better than others. My friend has a business called Fotos on Fabric and she uses Mircle photo sheets. Checkw tih your local quilt shops and see if they carry the fabric sheets for priniting photos Good luck and have fun!

I don't know where you are located, but Patches fabrics in Reseda, CA does these all the time. Owner is Jenny Horst. Her pictures are washable and don't fade to sepia like the ink jet pictures. She does them the same way as Kinkos but for less. Phone # is (818) 344-2678. e-mail is patchesfabrics@aol.com This is a small neighborhood quilt shop and she doesn't have a web site as yet.

Kinko's will do it.

But I just taught my friend how to do it and it was the first sewing project she ever made. I had her buy white Egyptian cotton (they sell it with the muslin) and then cut it into 7 X 10 inch pieces, Then she ironed that onto freezer paper, trimmed the paper, and then taped it to a sheet of card stock with one band of cellophane tape across the top edge. She printed 60 pictures on a regular old bubble jet and they came out beautifully. I also had her treat the fabric with Bubble Jet Set so they won't fade as much. The finished quilt has to be dry cleaned, so dry clean all fabrics in your dryer with a home dryclean kit, before you sew.

I have had them done at Kinko's in the past. I just found out however, that I have been spending too much doing it that way. Now I go to the Library and use the computer and inkjet printer there for 50 cents a sheet.

I haven't tried it myself but: do you have the correct print fabric (silly question, I know)? The right sort of printer? Do you have a friend with a different kind of printer? A Kall-Kwik should be able to try it for you (superior printers). The friends I know who have done it have used the pre-cut sheets and ink-jet printers.
