I am planning to give "Meal in a Bag" as gifts this Christmas. Where you put all the things you need to make a dinner in a bag including wine and possibly a good movie.

I have 2 vegetarians in my family and I'm not very familiar with many vegetarian meals.

Does anyone have any suggestions for vegetarian/vegan meals I can put together including a wine suggestion?

My sister said this vegan "cheese" cake recipe was awesome, so I want to make it chocolate for my omnivore, chocolate, cheesecake loving in-laws! The recipes I found called for semi-sweet baking chocolate, which in my experience contains milk. Could I use vegan chocolate chips instead maybe?? Or is there I way I could turn my plain (unsweetened and no milk) baking chocolate into semi-sweet with soy milk and sweetener, such as do you have a recipe/ exact measurements (I don't want to screw this up as I am trying to impress them)? Thank you!!

I'm not asking a silly question like do you hate us, but I'm wondering how you feel about those of us who still consume dairy/eggs or perhaps those who still wear leather/etc.? Do you think of us as "not quite there yet"?
Thanks.

lol i dont know if vegetarianism is a word but I recently picked up this book called "Skinny *****"... I am 5 foot 8 and 150 lbs but wanted to lose about 10 lbs, heard the book was good and #1 bestseller... I read horrible things about the abuse of animals in factory farms and it made me cry. I love animals, and I don't want to contribute to their suffering by eating meat anymore. And I am a person who could eat roast beef sandwhiches EVERYday I love it so much! I REALLY want to try and cut down on my meat intake and eventually not eat any meat products all together because I have been reading up online and through other books and finally know the truth about what I'm eating... not only is it unhealthy but it's heartbreaking. I just wanted to know if there are any tips for people like me who want to make the switch? I have a lot of natural and organic food stores (like Trader Joe's) nearby. Also, are there any meat producers who are humane? I heard Chik-fil-A was.

I know that the seasoning packets that come with Ramen noodles are not vegetarian, but the noodles are. What can I put in with the noodles to make it taste like more than noodle water?

Hi, in between university I work in the "deli" department of my local supermarket. 90% of what we sell is meat - raw fish, chicken, and sliced meats such as ham, turkey and beef. The other 10% is salad and olives.

I was vegetarian before i started working here, and have often thought if it is ethical for me to continue working here.

If i didn't work here, i reason, it would make no difference to people's purchasing habits and the deli would continue to run.

Thoughts, comments (and even abuse) welcome.

I'm, on vacation, and I have some more time to experiment in the kitchen. Does anybody know some good spicy tofu recipes?
They don't need to be vegetarian or vegan, but it's ok if they are.
Thanks

I am getting 60 grams of protien on average a day and I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian. I cant really help it, I have a smoothie with yogurt, orange juice and fruit in the morning, peanut butter and apples for lunch and a tofu or some kind of salad sandwhich, and a veggie burger for dinner. I know this doesn't add up to 60 some grams, but I eat other things like light cheese and I drink tons of milk.

If I am getting too much, Is that bad for my health in some way?

i saw a show on HBO about peta, and i was disgusted..so i looked it up and i found alot of information about the animals and how they torture them just for us to eat...its so horrible, so i thought about becoming a vegetarian, but don't you need at least some meat in your diet to be healthy? i know theres vitamins and everything, but is it the same as meat?

i never thought it would be so hard to be a vegan...how hard was it for you to start..and what food do you eat thats different from your meat diet (if you had one)
(i say this because some parents are vegans and they make their children eat veggie foods as soon as they start eating)

I want to eventually cut out all or most animal products from my diet but I cannot have anything with WHEAT, SOY, or NUTS, and very little sugar in my diet. What does that leave me to eat, especially for breakfast?

So I read this book about being vegetarian and decided to become a vegetarian (maybe even vegan some day). I'm a freshman at UC Berkeley, and I have no idea how to cook, much less how to good a healthy vegetarian meal. I went to the store and bought the following:

Worcestershire sauce
Medium firm tofu
Sea salt
Olive oil
Thai bowls
Vitamin water
Broccoli, Celery, and lots of other veggies
Fruits
Stir Fry sauce
Curry paste (how the hell do I use this?)
Florentine pasta
Soy milk
Rice milk
Tofurella (cheese looking thing)
Peanut butter

Now what the hell can I make with this stuff? I made some potato onion soup last night, but that's all I know how to make! I have a kitchen in the building and I'm not afraid to use it. I don't even know how to prepare tofu, much less how to make it tasty.

HELP!!!

I heard somewhere they don't consider it real meat. Why not? Birds and fish sure as heck aren't vegetables.

I've got some ideas, like my regular vegan treats and whatnot, nuts, etc...but if anybody has some interesting ideas I'm open to them.

(keep in mine I live with 5 other people, all meat-eaters, lol)

I don't want any bashing answers here, I'm new to veganism, and I've just got a curiosity.
What are some original vegan foods. What I mean is, you've got fake milk and fake burgers, but what are some dishes that are original?
Is there anything that was invented that isn't something that just looks like the real thing?

I go through cravings. I can't understand why. Recently it was peanut butter cups- I couldn't get enough of them, and If I am not having a craving for them- I really am not even fond of them. Before it was frosted mini wheat cereal with a glass of milk (not on the cereal). I also went through a Hummus phase, Subway Phase (sandwich had to be made the same way every time), and a whopper Jr. w/ Cheese minus the meat. Jimmy Johns Turkey Tom sub with extra vinaigrette dressing.

When I have these cravings and I eat the particular craved food, it is like it is the best thing in the whole world. When the craving goes away, I could care less about it. It is just so weird. My daughter says she goes through it a little bit but not to the extent that I do.

I am vegetarian but I don't think this has anything to do with it because I was like that before becoming one. Is this some type of eating disorder or am I missing nutrients that these foods provide? Any idea?
