I am getting 60 grams of protien on average a day and I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian. I cant really help it, I have a smoothie with yogurt, orange juice and fruit in the morning, peanut butter and apples for lunch and a tofu or some kind of salad sandwhich, and a veggie burger for dinner. I know this doesn't add up to 60 some grams, but I eat other things like light cheese and I drink tons of milk.

If I am getting too much, Is that bad for my health in some way?

Well, the recommended amount of protein is about 50g a day. So no, you're not too far from that, and you're not taking in too much protein.

You might want to cut back on the dairy, as animal protein does a number on your kidneys and your bones. Sixty grams of protein a day is on the high side (it's recommended you get .3 to .5 grams of protein per pound of body weight a day--or roughly 1 gram per kilogram of body weight), but it's not terribly excessive.

Drink lots of water, tea, and rooibos instead of milk and use soygurt in your smoothies instead of cows' milk yogurt. Some dairy yogurts have gelatin in them, so watch for that.

If you are an active male at least 175lbs its not that excessive. If you are female, its fairly excessive. Just know that any excess protein is stored as body fat, plus the metabolism of the excess protein is stressful to your kidneys over time. The milk is more damaging than anything else. It has an 8:1 calcium to magnesium ratio, so in order to process the excess calcium your body leeches magnesium from your body's greatest source - your bones, leaving you at major risk for osteoporosis. Plus milk is an acidic food, leaving your body in a state where it cant absorb the protein anyway. 45 g of protein is plenty for the day. If your body needs to, it can make amino acids from carbohydrates and nitrogen in the air you breathe. Check out the website below. Happy Holidays

You are eating in the normal range, assuming you are an average-sized adult. If you consumed an excess amount of protein, your body might go into ketosis, which really harms your kidneys, among other things. Don't worry about it though, it sounds like your diet is balanced and you're not getting too much protein.

All that dairy isn't good for you. I'd worry about that before I worried about getting too much protein, especially since that's an awful lot of unhealthy animal protein right there.
