I live in a dorm and don't have access to a kitchen. The building does have a dining hall, but it is closed for the next couple weeks. I am a vegetarian (and semi-lactose-intolerant), and I need to find cheap, healthy meals (both to bring to work and also to eat at home). Any suggestions? Thank you!!

Went to a restaurant tonight and ordered a vegetarian entree to soon discover they gave me a gravy....with meat drippings in it. I found the situation funny on one hand and yet upsetting. I had to send my plate back and have them recook my meal which I felt awful about because the gravy was on other things.

I wasn't really expecting gravy at a chinese place.

Anyone ever go through something like this?

I read in a recent Time magazine that some New England farmers use their maple syrup to make vodka. Here in NZ, real maple syrup is far more expensive than vodka. You can make vodka from cheap raw materials like whey from cheese factories and potatoes. So why use maple syrup?
