A fruit contains seeds on the inside and vegetables do not. Technically a strawberry's seeds on the outside is the fruit and the flesh part is considered a vegetable. In the scientific world there really is no such thing as a vegetable only comes up in the culinary world. Vegetables are usually savory and fruits are sweet according to culinary terms. A cucumber is actually a fruit but we the public consider it to be a vegetable. One thing I cannot figure out is what the hell a coconut is. is it a nut, a seed, or a fruit?
