Singles & Dating - 19 December 2006

we were together for three years and many things happened over those years. i was an idealistic optimist who wanted to believe in the inherent goodness of people so i forgave him many times for the things he did. he basically shattered my ideals - to say nothing of my heart - and now i find myself saying "why bother the next one will probably do the same". how do i move past these ideas? more and more i find myself wanting to stay in and stay away from people. at the same time the silence, emptiness and loneliness is overwhelming. thanks in advance for your advice.

The reason I broke up with my first boyfriend was because he cared about me more than I do. Now we're on good terms and we always give each other hugs. The other day I was picking up my sister from school and he gave me a really big hug and squeezed me really tight. I don't know if guys mean it this way, but when I hug someone like that it means I really care about them. I don't know, could he still be in love with me?

I'm almost 18 and I'm tired of my parents being over-protective and not letting me hang out with guys alone, date guys, or even let them come over my house. My parents are Persian and it seems to be a cultural issue. They claim never to have dated and seem like they have no idea how important this is to me. I've tried to talk to them about it before but they say I can never have a boyfriend or go on dates. .. that I'm too young. I'm 17 and a half. Sorry I could keep ranting but please....help!

So here are some details...

*He's always trying to be around me during class and volunteers to pass back papers and always stays at my desk longer than other peoples' desks

*He jokes around a lot with me.

*Today we were walking out of class and it was just me and him and he randomly started laughing. I asked him why and he said "nothing," looked at me, then smiled and walked off.

*He's always trying to listen to my friend and I talk in class.

*I catch him stare at me in the corner of my eye.

*He gets close to me sometimes. Like when we walked out of class, he waited for everyone to leave so he can "casually" walk out with me.

*Also, we're interested in a lot of the same things. I really want him to like me back, so I smile and talk to him as much as I can. Am I just imagining things?

My boyfriend of 1 1/2 years has been using heroin for the past 6 months and has a serious problem. It severly affects our relationship and consumes our lives. My life is affected by decisions I do not make, things I do not do, and things I seem to have no control over. He does not live with me, so I cannot be there to look out for him 24/7. Things were not like this, at all when I hooked up with him. He took the wrong path and got stuck in a deep rut. I have tried to help him detox, and have been there for him sooo many times. It is to the point where I am sure he takes me for granted and knows I dont want to leave him. I really do love him so much that words cannot explain. As if I truely did not ever know what love is until I met him. He is an amazing person and I do not have it in my heart to walk away. I know he loves me dearly, but sometimes the way he treats me through his ups and downs is hard to deal with. I am literally the only person he has. I dont know what to do anymore.

I'm 14 and i'm in Chicago childrens choir,there's this girl in another choir that i always see and she caught my eye,she's a quiet and off to herself girl i can tell and so complex she blew me away,today when she walked past me i almost lost my mind,no girl ever has had this affect on me. should i talk to her? if so how should i approach her,i'm kind of intemidated by her,this is a first,i usually got that confidence.

I like her so much and I think I fall in love with her. But I never succeed taking her out even for a lunch. She works in the same office even the same room as I do. it seems my partner has lied to me, she said she got my airfare sorted but I rang the airline this morning to confirm and she aint done it, I ringing her tonight to discuss why she has lied to me, I love her to bits and am prepared to forgive her for this as we have been through what I see as worse in some cases together I just dont know how to tell her my feelings...any ideas?? and also what do you all think, just wondering if you all think I should forgive and forget this incident or not and why?? not like it'll change what I do anyway just wondering what you'd all do in this situation.
I will admit I do feel hurt, sad and angry by this but can forgive her.

Ok, this is probably a little confusing, but anyways; a few days ago I was pretty much set on breaking up with my boyfriend, so when another guy asked me for my number, I gave it to him. The next day my boyfriend shows up with my favorite flowers, and a really sweet letter, saying how sorry he was, and how misrible he would be without me. I forgave him and didn't tell him that I had planned on breaking up with him, and had given my number out. Now the guy I gave my number to (and I talked to for a couple hours on the phone too) keeps calling and asking me out. He has no idea I have a boyfriend, and he is really sweet, how can I tell him kindly, that when I gave him my number, I still technically had a boyfriend, and that we are still together. I hate to hurt people, so I want to do this in the nicest possible way, he really seems to like me.
